Thanks for that, Irwin! Lovely read.

Irwin's theme song followed by my theme song! Great show opener!

Page 205 from which book?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm

Search the text online, you'll find. I made one edit.

I hear there are beautiful leper colonies on the Hawiian Islands.

"The Time Traveler's Guide to Medieval England"
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Alison Porchnik:

I see the edit; the original was undoubtedly some opaque euphemism you assumed no one would understand.
Avatar 3:16pm
Droll:

If your nose collapses and begins to ooze a smelly liquid you can always call 1-800-Free-NoseJiob.com. Make your own "My leper has no nose. How does he smell?" joke.

Where is the edit? I can't find my copy of the book.
Avatar 3:17pm
Ike:

I like the conceit of a Lonely Planet type of guide for fourteenth-century England.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
Irwin:

AP: No, I removed all references to WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
mariano:

I think there's a BBC three-part show you can find on Youtube called The Elizabethan Time Traveller or something like that. Really interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm

<That is why people are absolutely terrified of it. And that is why, if you catch it, very few people will dare to come near you.>

He's right -- that sure sounds like WFMU to me.
  3:21pm
Laura L:

And you made me read it twice now to try to find the edit--isn't it just that you swapped the order of the paragraphs and gave the second paragraph an indent? In addition to deleting WFMU references, that is.
Avatar 3:24pm
still b/p:

A subsequent paragraph says, "...leper hospitals are set up on the roads out of towns. Therein, it is supposed, the lepers are fornicating furiously, in line with their supposedly sinful natures, and so most lepers do not actually go to these places until forced to do so."
If you was horribly afflicted and ostracized, you WOULDN'T go for the FF?

Yes, Laura. Caught me as well.

Ken From Hyde Park:

My hands & feet haven't had much sensation lately. Should I be worried?
Avatar 3:27pm
Droll:

How are the lepers going to fornicate if their penises have putrefied?

Which phrase replaces WFMU? "living death"? "Your breath will be considered to be of similar quality to the smell of the WFMU main studio mic"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I figured he added WFMU references.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Irwin:

LL discovered the edit. She wins! However, since she won something from me in the past 30 days, she is disqualified from collecting the prize. We have to give others a fair chance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
mariano:

There's that old song about leprosy, remember anyone?
Leprosy, crawling all over me
There goes my left ear, into my draft beer...
Kiss me quick! There goes my upper lip!
There goes my eyeball, into my highball...

Probably not remembering the lyrics 100% accurately, it's some of my grandparents' Rat Pack era stuff.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

There was a problem at the leper hockey game the other night. There was a face off in the corner.

You know, I wasn't going to mention it, but I noticed that the comma at "around a cesspit," should be deleted, 'cause that's a compound predicate. There, I've said it.

Mariano: "Infrarouge" by the Mighty Bop, from La Vague Sensorielle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
mariano:

Cool, thanks so much, Irwin! Back when I'd hear these in the 90s on KPFA, it was harder to find out who did what, because he usually just credited whoever mixed the clip for his show.

Goyim in the AM:

Pretentious Germans will often say "whatever" in English.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm

Never mind, I was wrong: he totally credited the music! I must've been to buzzed last time I heard this.

Thanks! I should get that one--it's great work music--and we all need great work music. But what music to play when breaking the yogurt maker?
Avatar 5:46pm
Ike:

I'm not even sure how I would break my yogurt maker, other than throwing it out the window from the third floor. It's small, but pretty sturdy-looking.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I've only had store-bought yogurt. Is it a lot of work to make yogurt at home or at the office?

Only Helmut Klankschein knows. It was probably a Braun.

Avatar 5:52pm
Ike:

KFHP, it's pretty easy, but when I've tried it, it comes out all watery. I need a strainer. Even then it's probably unlikely to be as good as "Greek" yogurt. I usually just buy that lately (plain Cabot on sale).

I like how all the Great Hit pop songs of the 70's were already taken and K-tel settled for the Decent pop songs. Somewhere I have my "Mediocre Melodies of '74" compilation... Almost decent.

Thanks Irwin! Have a fun week yinz!
