	12:18pm Lane Steelpicker: I've noticed NOBODY retains the intensity of their youthful playing. They may get better, but something gets lost as they mature (the Reggie Dwight brought that to mind, but I type slow since I'm driving)

	12:20pm Stevel: Dean: My first exposure to TH was via More Songs... The experience was similar yours on '77, having heard Take Me To The River and not hearing that on the rest of the album. Still, I'd keep playing what I bought and it grew on me.

	12:20pm Uncle Michael: Interesting idea, lane. I hear that said of songwriters but not often about players. I'd have to think about that.
	12:21pm Dean: I think my displeasure with TH was part of a larger, uh, transformation. I wearied of rock as the '80s commenced. I love, love, love Byrne & Eno's Bush of Ghosts, but can barely stomach anything else from either of them.
	12:22pm Goyim in the AM: There are times when I wish there had been a marital crisis in the Talking Heads rhythm section around, oh, Fear of Music or so, and I were a strong-shouldered bass tech ready to pick up the pieces.
	12:22pm Dean: Still dig "Love Goes to a Building on Fire," though.
	12:23pm Lane Steelpicker: Dean, I think even Nina lost a reckless edge. But she never had it like Elton, Buck, nearly every player, or especially Paycheck. He wasn't worth a damn after 71
	12:24pm Dean: Buck Owens? Geez, yeah. That early stuff is rowdy!
	12:25pm still b/p: In '77 or '78, I put 5 tracks from TH '77 on a mix tape, or bigger chunks tape, along with most of Countdown to Ecstasy, several Abraxas tracks, and five from Pousette Dart's Amnesia. That cassette is in my hand. Am I Time Capsule King today (after Uncle Michael)?

	12:26pm Goyim in the AM: Nü-Mission of Burma not to my years less intensely played than old-Mission of Burma (although the old songs are better). Also Fugazi's playing got fiercer with each record.
	12:26pm Lane Steelpicker: ESPECIALLY players, UM. Buddy is a case in point. As he gained perspective, he lost reckless. Or look at Lloyd (especially on the Little Darlin paychecks). Gain maturity, lose attitude.
	12:27pm pacific standard simon: My favorite song would usually be whatever made my siblings cringe ("It's A Gas", for one) -- any of that dynamic going on with you?
	12:28pm Mike East: I feel that my own playing doesn't have the edge that it used to. Was just thinking about that, actually. Its sad.

	12:29pm Dean: My son would love "It's a Gas." My favorite song remains Burt's own arrangement and performance of "Mexican Divorce." Best pop song by miles.
	12:30pm still b/p: "Brandy" -- and all the teen girls who sang it aloud -- drove me nuts in its day, though I sing it when it comes on the vehicle radio today. Recently had a conversation about what period the song is set in. I said 19th century, for no defensible reason.

	12:34pm pacific standard simon: "Brandy" would probably be a respectable song if it were sung by some grizzled old country veteran, without all those "doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo" backup singers.

	12:37pm Lane Steelpicker: Mike East, I wouldn't worry about it. While I don't usually get as recklessly intense, I can still convey the attitudes and sentiments that the song calls for, and I can do it better.

	12:52pm Alex In Illinois: I first heard of Cheap Trick when I was a kid in St. Louis Missouri, and one Saturday, I was watching Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and Don Kirshner's son got to introduce Cheap Trick saying: "And now, for the first time on American Television, we introduce Cheap Trick". (Spoken with that Long Island Accent). The days following, other kids and I kept talking about it: "Did you see that band Cheap trick with that guy in a baseball cap jumping around?"

	12:26pm Goyim in the AM: Nü-Mission of Burma not to my years less intensely played than old-Mission of Burma (although the old songs are better). Also Fugazi's playing got fiercer with each record.
