  9:46pm Joe from DC:

From the Treniers to T Valentine....its like some K-Tel Record from a parallel cooler universe than our own!
Avatar 10:25pm fleep:

[Knocks on ceiling with broom] Hey, keep it down, radio ad!
  10:25pm Joe from DC:

Love that Presley record...even songs that he wasn't fully engaged on still sound better than most other records.
  10:31pm ScottC:

Wait a sec... "leaving the straight life behind..." Bing!
  10:31pm Joe from DC:

This is a perfect show. This cannot be bettered. Bing Sings!
  10:37pm Spooky:

*regained mortal coil for a brief moment* - You said it, Joe! *dies again attended by circle of bonobos*
  10:43pm Joe from DC:

*revived once more to declare similarities between Groovies' 'Headin for the Texas Border' and Echo and the Bunnymen 'Doing It Clean'*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Uncle Michael:

Damn...how have I not heard this version before?
  11:12pm JakeGould:

Nice! Hank Snow’s milking that cow for all it’s worth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm Uncle Michael:

Milking Lucky Starr's cow!
  11:15pm JakeGould:

I stand corrected Uncle Michael. I will now walk—fully clothed—into the Atlantic Ocean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Uncle Michael:

Hank recorded it in '62...as did Lucky. Lucky originated it and recorded numerous versions, related to different English speaking locales. Hank had the monster hit. Lucky was Australian, as was the original geography of the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Uncle Michael:

Not all of my facts may be right. Working from memory...
  11:25pm JakeGould:

@UncleMichael: WFMU is one of the few places I enjoy being corrected, because the pop-culture knowledge here is deep. Seriously.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm Uncle Michael:

I wonder if Rick Moranis knew about "I Ain't Been Anywhere" when he did "I Ain't Goin' Nowhere."
  11:30pm JakeGould:

@UncleMichael: Wow! Looks like odd… Wow… www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Uncle Michael:

Right. I'm just wondering if Moranis knew the version that Dave just played. I didn't and I've been collecting versions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm coelacanth:

Hank Snow recorded "i've been everywhere" in '62. some time must've passed before this was created.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Uncle Michael:

In the meantime Johnny Cash recorded it too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm Uncle Michael:

The original: www.youtube.com...

For after the show!
  11:37pm JakeGould:

Nah, you dinks miss my point. Uncle Michael is right. I mean “I Ain’t Been Anywhere” is better and predates Rick Moranis’ parody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm coelacanth:

when was that? the only Cash version i can find on the web is the one from american recordings. ('96)...but i would've sworn the one in a box set i have at home (not here) is much earlier. (?)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, Cash was 1996 But he did it on his tv show many years earlier.

www.youtube.com...
  11:42pm JakeGould:

@UncleMichael: Didn’t they use Johnny Cash’s version on some hotel/motel commercial?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm coelacanth:

Jake,i didn't know you had a point!...and i don't think i've heard rick moranis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm Uncle Michael:

Yeah, I think Motel 6 or something.
  11:44pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth: My point has been dulled by a nasty cold this past week. So fair enough.
  11:45pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Rick Moranis is mainly a comedian. SCTV. “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” and all that.
  11:46pm Joe from DC:

So, my computer froze up during Johnny Nash, and the player stuttered on MONKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY for about 30 seconds until I could cut the power. Is this the most perfect show or what?
  11:46pm JakeGould:

Here is Rick Moranis performing as the greatest backing voclaist of all time, Michael McDonald on SCTV. www.youtube.com...
  11:47pm Spooky:

*gasp - try Rick Moranis as Tom Monroe singing 'Turning Japanese" sctv
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm coelacanth:

Jake,i just didn't know i was disagreeing with anyone.
...and Thanks for the link!(i'll check it out later)

and Dave ...isn't that "red hot" Billy Lee Riley?
  11:50pm JakeGould:

I think I’m turning Japanese… I really think so. www.youtube.com...
  11:51pm Listener John:

Lyrics to real rock music is nothing but satanic cyanide?
REALLY?
I always thought it was just people screaming!
  11:51pm JakeGould:

Thanks for the Lou Christie as well as the last 3 hours Dave. Fare thee well!
  11:53pm Spooky:

The Gun Club another installment in the Flaming Groovies' hymnal? God we are spinning out of control AND I LOVE IT by every simian hair on your body

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am Dave the Spazz:

Thanks, everyone, for tuning in! See ya next week...
  3:40pm Mark Dillman:

Rick Moranis' version is on his Grammy nominated album "The Agoraphobic Cowboy."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Greg from Bloomfield:
