Favoriting Bill Zurat: Playlist from April 23, 2015 Favoriting

Some pop, fumbling musicians, bedroom recordings, vocal harmonies with orchestras, elongated notes, tape hiss, one-chord wonders, analog synths + clicking drum machines, loners, breezy country, and brief cacophonous interruptions.

th'Druids are moving next month. LPs always the last to go in boxes, first to come out. Might pack an emergency dose in a backpack for rapid retrieval.
Avatar 10:32am

Five times in a year?? Gross!
Yeah, I already took half my records - planning to take the other half on Saturday. I'll give my Tuesday moving buddies a break from that since they helped me move em the first two times.
  10:32am
frenchee:

ugh, I'm moving too. Less than 1,000 LPs but a lot of books. Yes, the stereo is first to be unearthed (and tuned to WFMU, cuz we're auld skool like that).

Rev. Turnip Druid:

no idea what the collection numbers anymore. At its peak (before the Great Purge of 1993) it was about 5000. Probably up to 1300 now. Seems like ELEVENTY BILLIONS when huffing 'em into a truck.
  10:42am
Mark:

I'm digging this mellow Thursday am vibe. That sounds like faint praise, but far from it. Robert Lester Holmes is really hitting the spot. I'm bugged that I can't figure out who his voice reminds me of, though. I'm sure it'll come to me about 11:15 tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am

I moved from Boston to Seattle and sent 12 boxes of books through the mail. When I got to Seattle I changed my mind and as the boxes arrived I shipped them back to Boston. I look at it now as Performance Art.
  10:45am
Mark:

@ Rev. Turnip, Someday, all music ever recorded will reside in the cloud, and, with a touch of a button, we'll be able to summon it directly into our heads. The sound reverberating inside our skulls will make the perfect speaker system.

Rev., you meant 13,000 right?(since you said"up to")...That sounds like heaven and hell all rolled into one!
i don't know what i've got either, though i WAS good about cataloging them. i guess around 3000. i intend to part with at least 1/3 of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am

...and good morning
Avatar 10:56am
Rev. Turnip Druid:

neh, coelacanth: like "back up to" 1300. I did a massive purge in the early 1990s, when I could get "the weird stuff" on these newfangled CDs. Definitely over that delusion now, and trying to get back to former vinyl glory..
Avatar 11:00am

Wow, this is surprisingly good for the Stones. Good for them.

i never would have guessed this to be the Stones! i wonder what combination of drugs they were on at this point in '68...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am
coelacanth:

Rev.,that's still a lot. if i end up with just the ones i truly cherish it may be around 1500. i haven't moved in 10 years, but i know i will. fortunately i store most of them in someone else's house.

"Helen Is A Hologram" sounds like when a robot comes home from a hard day of work, fixes himself a drink of sulfuric acid, kicks back in his barcalounger--he'd listen to this type of tune-age on the hi-fi.
Avatar 11:57am
d¢ pät:

..or he's sitting at the kitchen table sitting next to an empty bottle of sulfuric acid and Helen is asleep in the other room. He just keeps saying "Helen is a hologram. Helen is a hologram.."
