Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from July 7, 2015 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

This ST song kind of freaked me out the first time I heard that Blasting Concept comp.

Don't forget Big Jim Martin pre-Faith No More on this one as well!

Influenced by "just about everyone," lovely. Same for me. Except for Boccherini. I've got nothing from Boccherini.

@RRN63: then you came to the right place, though I'm afraid you'll have to supply the snacks and drinks

Now there's a band name! Cliff Burton Pre-Metallica!

that jazz sabbath called for several dirty martinis... seemed appropriate somehow

I wonder what Metal Sabbath would sound like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm

This Kamasi Washington record has been getting a lot of airplay on this station, well deserved
  4:41pm
P-90:

Scott McDowell has played some of Kamasi Washington's "The Epic", everything I've heard from it blows me away.
  4:44pm
Dean:

Unmistakeable saxophone right there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
fred:

Ouch. Kamasi Washington plays over here in November. €26 is probably too steep for me though. The venue might cancel it if not enough people show up, so there's hope

That must have been it, steve. The Metallica smooth jazz "Enter Sandman" is even "better."

haha thanks Dean, that sounds awful, in a worse = better kind of way.

Seems like that guy is a known troll on every show. He probably went off to take his classmate's chicken nuggets from his lunchtray or put his head in the toilet or something.
  5:10pm
Dean:

FWIW, I got banned from Wm. Berger's show once for being an admitted "contrarian." But to paraphrase Nixon, I am not a dick, or at least not usually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
fred:

@Dean: getting banned from Wm Berger's playlist isn't that hard, or harmful. I get more upset when Ken issues station-wide bans for doubtful reasons
Avatar 5:16pm
steve:

i saw one of the Wilful Boys walking down my street the other day... didnt realize theyve apparently moved to the area.
Avatar 5:17pm
Brian Turner:

Yeh, they're really all NYers except the two Aussies, who are living here too....
  5:18pm
Dean:

So you're saying, fred, that I can't even take pride in my achievement?

The Sewers' vocalist could be the lovechild of Darby Crash and Stiv Bators.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
fred:

That's a pet peeve of mine, so credit is due: thanks Brian for crediting the engineer in such a prominent way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
fred:

@Dean: take pride all you want, just don't take offense
Avatar 5:20pm
steve:

oh, no kidding. i mustve spoken to the two Australians and assumed they were all Aussies...
Avatar 5:38pm
Ike:

@Fred@5:15, some DJs prefer it if we "self-police" but that can be really tricky too. There's someone who used to get the station-wide comments ban regularly, who doesn't anymore, because Ken has chilled out or started smoking more WFM-YOU-KNOW or something (?)... but that commenter is such a bozo and a faker. Intentional Digital Identity and Intelligence Dysmorphia is for the birds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
Marcel M:

Hello Brian and friends
Avatar 5:41pm
Brian Turner:

hi marcel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
fred:

@Ike: Ken banned RRN63. Please tell me how that was right. The timing was trump-awful too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Mike East:

there were a couple station wide bans recently, I believe. (kat330/philo gristle). perhaps more that I'm unaware of.
Glad the Rabbit has returned.
Avatar 5:52pm
Ike:

Thanks M.E., I didn't know about that. As for RRN63, wasn't that a while back? I presume his odd diction & longer comments just hit a nerve sometimes, but he seems like a good guy, and he actually discusses the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
chris:

Zu! Soooo krunchy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
fred:

@Mike East: Kat and Philo were banned??? I need to know more, but that could redefine my commitment to the station
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I wasn't strictly banned ; Ken felt I was over-commenting, which was probably true (I was *never* a troll - on the contrary!: I've been over-enthusiastic, in fact!), & he dealt w/ it I felt in a somewhat arbitrary & indelicate manner (basically in private messages) - it ain't no thing now. Everyone complains to him as Manager (not me, however!), & he can't know the exact details of what actually happens everywhere all the time...
  5:57pm
Dean:

Guess it's time to review Guidelines for Listener Comments on Listener-Supported Radio Comment Boards (3d ed. 2008).
Avatar 5:57pm
Īke:

@Fred@5:55, yes, don't react without knowing all the facts. I don't know much myself, but Kat was having some... uh... issues of some sort and repeatedly accusing somebody of something I'm pretty sure they weren't guilty of... or SOMETHING like that... I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm
chris:

Awesome fucking show, BT. Thanks, man!

Love all the talk about banning and being a station dictator. I love the fact that not so long ago this comments board didn't exist, and now, we really feel a pride and a right to be able to chat with one another. Another reason FMU is so fucking cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm
fred:

@RRN63: I for one is happy that you are here
Avatar 5:59pm
Ike:

Ha ha ha ha ha, good one, @Dean. And agreed, @Chris@5:58 and @Fred@5:59. And thanks, BT.
  6:00pm
P-90:

@fred: did Ken actually "ban" RRN63, or just ask him to take a little break and then return with less frequent comments?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I like(d) kat, but she was agitating about equal airtime for women. If you wanna be a Feminist Activist, do so - but why lay stuff on thick onto the most freeform & independent station there is?? - like it's FMU's fault...
@fred: I got a lot of support from you & many individuals which means a lot to me.
Avatar 6:01pm
steve:

excellent show BT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
fred:

@P-90: I'll stand by what he says
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Mike East:

such a strange collection of weirdos we are here
  6:02pm
P-90:

Thanks, Brian Turner!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
fred:

@RRN63: I'm used to being a male feminist, which means getting it wrong most of the time. Comes with the territory. I should shut up, but being laughably wrong seems to be what I signed up for.
