	7:09pm Ike: For many in the UK in the 60s, this theme was the first time they'd ever heard something made without "real" instruments (and supposedly a lot of it was made using modified static) which is why it creeped a lot of them the hell out.

There was also a rumor that DW was one of the first regularly-scheduled things to air after continuous news coverage but I'm not sure about that one.

August 11, 2015: The Many, Many Themes of Ron Grainer
Morricone Island remembers Australian-born film and television composer Ron Grainer (1922-1981) on what would have been his 93rd birthday. Perhaps most well known as the composer of the Doctor Who Theme (with Delia Derbyshire and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop), Grainer's body of work is so much more. While a fixture on the British pop music scene in the early 60's, he composed for television (Maigret, The Prisoner, Steptoe & Son) and film (To Sir, With Love, The Omega Man). He also discovered The Eagles! No, not Glen Frey and Don Henley, but the Bristol-based instrumental quartet which he produced and used as studio musicians for a number of his television themes.
