I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Uncle Michael!! Hallos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Uncle Michael:

Hallo Mayuko. I will be listening till we leave for dinner. We're going to check out a Japanese place that looks like it might hold some promise (no small feat in Kansas).
Avatar 5:36pm
Mayuko:

Hope you'll have a good one, Uncle Michael. And hope the place is not called Sapporo. Feels like too many Japanese restaurants called Sapporo already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
maestroso:

With any luck I will be listening to your show with tea and breakfast next week in Tokyo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
Uncle Michael:

The place was first called Shogun, then called Sakura and is now called Yuki. It's mainly sushi and a teppan grill. The sushi looks better in photographs than any I've seen here in town before...with more interesting choices and specials. I'm going with an open mind and measured expectations.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Poughkeepsie station WVKR has DJ Yoko on Monday afternoons these days. Lots of Japanese influence this day of the week for me.
Avatar 5:46pm
Mayuko:

ohhh! you going there for vacation or business, maestroso?? it must be super early morning there when I do my show, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Uncle Michael:

Are you using Studio C, Mayuko? You know it well by now, eh?
Avatar 5:50pm
Mayuko:

Japanese are trying to take over the world again, Ken. Taking over radio/media is a good start.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
maestroso:

@ Mayuko - I'm going for vacation! I think we're 13 hours ahead in Tokyo, correct? So your show would be 6 am Tokyo time. That's good for my jet-lagged state.
Avatar 5:53pm
Mayuko:

Uncle Michael, yup I'm using Studio C, one of the CD players is still pretty tricky though. Makes me wanna smash it sometimes.
Avatar 5:56pm
Mayuko:

maestroso, that's nice! hopefully the heat will get somewhat subsided by the time you'll get there (summer in Tokyo is pretty brutal.) Would be really cool to have you tune in from there and you can tell me what it's like there now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm

Ok, I will try!

welcome, mayuko. enjoying your sounds. hola, UM.

Ken From Hyde Park:

Her show is "Noodling With Yoko" from 3 - 4 PM. She plays music; not noodle cooking lessons. I think they have an internet stream. I sometimes listen to that station on the airwaves when WMFU isn't coming in.

Hi Monica! It was a good baseball day for north-siders.

@Monica - We had a kayak trip on the Crow Wing River out of Sebeka on vacation last month.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm

My pops and I will be at Wrigley for the NL Wild Card Game if we can overtake Pittsburgh. Two trips back to Chicago in consecutive years is a distinct possibility.

@Ken, very cool. Love all the lake/river stuff up there. We went on a fishing trip on Lake Superior while in Duluth. Came back empty handed and a huge headache from bobbing around in choppy waters. Duluth is gorgeous though.

@Mayuko
When you smash the CD player in Studio C, use the mini-sledgehammer behind the turntables. That's what it's there for!!

I;m listening to the archive - wan't near a stream this afternoon, but congrats! And Youko of the aforementioned WVKR show runs a great restaurant in New Paltz that's a sushi-free Japanese noodle shop called Gomen Kudasai.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
fred:

Great first regular show Mayuko! I wish I could hear this live, but then I'd be lobbying you to have a break every half-hour instead of every hour.
I liked what you said about coming to NY and not knowing the language. In fact I came to resent being next to people speaking French or English in the subway because I understand what they're saying. When it's a language I don't understand, I can hear it as sound or music, even though I don't expect it to mean anything more interesting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
fred:

I did notice the then/previously switch happening more, but talks with Asian friends made that more confusing to me, yet very interesting. Language, culture and time seem to mix in enlightening or confusing ways. These two might be the same thing
Avatar 10:41pm
Mayuko:

Thanks, Henry! Glad she doesn't call her restaurant Sapporo nor Sakura!
Avatar 10:50pm
Mayuko:

fred, Thank you! Maybe not 30 min but I was thinking I should try splitting 2hrs into three sets - too soon for me to stick to only one way of doing a show. Would be nice if everybody speaks like Samuel Beckett's novel, with words repeating and switching orders and all tangled up. That would make peaceful subway ride for you.
