Hiya!

Did the sky above Jersey City cooperate so you could see Super Blood Moon?
Avatar 12:06am
Ike:

In Sunset Park, it was visible for a while earlier this evening (but not especially bloody), and very bright, but then the clouds jumped in and fracked everything up.
Avatar 12:07am
BadGuyZero:

The sky over Dallas was a little hazy. But not hazy enough to keep me from taking 600 crappy photos of Super Blood Moon!
  12:08am
JakeGould:

@Ike: I beg to differ because about 30 blocks south of you in Bay Ride I saw it nice and red even from the street. So get your local Sunset Park council man to clean up those clouds.
Avatar 12:09am
Therese:

I could see the eclipse starting, as I came over to the station. But then there were buildings in the way and it got cloudy. So I watched from the NASA webpage.
Avatar 12:14am
BadGuyZero:

The moon didn't look too super here. It looked like it was maintaining its regular distance.
Avatar 12:15am
Ike:

Oh wait, there it is. It moved without telling me. I see it now. Still not very bloody. Maybe I need to adjust the tint settings on my eyeballs.

JakeGould:

Based on everyone’s comment this would have been the perfect night to pull one of those “Telescope with ink on the eyepiece that makes it look like you have a black eye” nights.

Okay… So… Is Bonnie Tyler in the mix?

Had to look it up, Jake.

Re: "Walking on the Moon," I have a jazzy-ish cover of it by somebody I can't just now recall. It's not bad. Not a fan, though, of the original.

I can't remember the exact joke, but I loved the joke on the Colbert Report about Pope merchandise and the biblical passage of Jesus' thoughts on it.

We saw the blood moon quite clearly from 26th Street and Broadway in Manhattan. Than a stranger invited us to some rooftop bar for a better look. It was like something out of Eyes Wide Shut, people in red robes milling about. I like to imagine there was chanting happening, but I don't think there really was. By then, the moon was obscured by clouds and we went home.

Avatar 2:35am
BadGuyZero:

Sounds like an EP to me.
Avatar 2:40am
BadGuyZero:

My understanding of the history of the term EP - and I could be entirely wrong about this - is that the first EPs were 7-inch records that played at 33rpm and featured two songs on each side. So it was extended play compared to a traditional 7-inch single, but not long play like a 12-inch record. Over time it became a catch-all term for records that weren't a traditional one-song-per-side 7-inch or a full-length LP.

Again, I could be way off the mark, but that's how it was explained to me during my teenage years.

listener james from westwood:

If you're still taking Las Vegas tips: If your party will have a car, see if you all can get out to Red Rock Canyon, like a half hour+ northwest of the city. Amazing natural formations, far from the casino noise and smoke if you need a break, and there are a variety of walking and hiking trails, incl. an easy nature walk at Red Spring Boardwalk Trail. Whatever else you do out there, stay hydrated, both inside the hotels and out, and remember that the properties along the Strip are a lot farther away from each other than they look, if you're gonna hoof it from one to the next. And have fun!!
