	12:09pm northguineahills: UM, referring to Doug's gif, my friend, Toshio Kajiwara, used to design turntables w/ multiple arms and descending contacting mics w/ records w/ pieces of tape and rubber bands on it to create beats. I used to use a half dozen turntables w/ records w/ tape, and cuts made w/ exacto knifes on records. I only did it a few times, b/c, damn, needles are expensive.

When LouReed died - I was wistful & felt the pang that the ProtoUnderground King had passed w/ the times - but somehow w/ Bowie I've felt gutted for a week like the world has changed somehow. Weird really. ...I mean - I didn't cry over LouReed.

	12:51pm V Priceless: We're at the Woodmansey/Visconti gig on Bowie's birthday (1/8) in NYC - Visconti dials DB from his cell phone on stage, and we all sing 'Happy Birthday' to him! Less than 48 hours later...he is gone...and I have just been wiped-out ever since. Loved the man since I was like 12.

	1:00pm Dean: The characteristics I like about Ferry are pretty much the ones I didn't like when first I heard/saw him. He effected a caricature of suaveness, a mannerism not befitting rock music. But then it did fit, or I grew not to care that it didn't. How else should one sing "Love Is the Drug" or "Out of the Blue"? For me, "Like a Hurricane" only really works as a Roxy Music performance. The simile is so, pardon the pun, overblown. It takes a pose like Ferry's to make it work.

	1:20pm Dean: Meltzer's desired response a good percent of the time, RRN63. Works the other way, too, UM. Donny Paycheck, drummer and chronic finger-giver for Zeke, is just a cool grandpa kinda guy. Brinsley Schwarz appeared to appreciate the "I've been a fan forever" offerings after a Graham Parker gig. Their job, perhaps, is to be human offstage.

Even then I knew some was just good Pop &/or Funk - but in the smalltown world it wasn't the Gays & People of Color & hard drug freaks who were Disco People - & it was the Jocks & yer Dad wanting to be Travolta, see. All the Live venues went GlitterBall - wall-to-wall on all the airwaves - & this was for years & years & years it seemed. Where & when I was situated - the Punk Revolution seemed the inevitable reaction to this (& YachtRock & JourneyStyxForeignerKansasEaglesReoSpeedwagon) - far more than a reaction to Prog as it's usually realted. So - if Disco stylistically disappeared up believing its' own Press - it's its' own fault ...But of course dismissing a whole Genre out of hand is an abdication. ...I'll Copy & Save that for next time the Disco Question comes up maybe... I like Ferry just fine, to be clear. He does Ferry real well.

"'Fame' definitely came first," is Alomar's take. He goes on to suggest Bowie would have sued had Brown's version hit. But nothing about how Brown got the lick in the first place.

I used to use a half dozen turntables w/ records w/ tape, and cuts made w/ exacto knifes on records. I only did it a few times, b/c, damn, needles are expensive.

	1:00pm Dean: The characteristics I like about Ferry are pretty much the ones I didn't like when first I heard/saw him. He effected a caricature of suaveness, a mannerism not befitting rock music. But then it did fit, or I grew not to care that it didn't. How else should one sing "Love Is the Drug" or "Out of the Blue"? For me, "Like a Hurricane" only really works as a Roxy Music performance. The simile is so, pardon the pun, overblown. It takes a pose like Ferry's to make it work.

I like Ferry just fine, to be clear. He does Ferry real well.
