Evening, Sam and all! That is one Dust Bowl–looking picture there, even though I suspect it's much later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm
Sam Segal:

Howdy, James! Later indeed. This is from photographer Terry Eiler's series on Navajo and Hopi reservations in Arizona, circa early summer 1972.
  9:08pm
Marsh Skeele:

Hey Sam speaking of circa I'd love to hear "Tuzvihar"! From my favorite Hungarian rock band Omega, circa 1969.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm
Sam Segal:

That's a tall order, Marsh, but I'll see what I can do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
listener james from westwood:

@Sam: Those scenes have the potential to be bleak, too, for even sadder reasons. Right around a lot of Native American protests in that stretch of time, IIRC, like Wounded Knee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17pm
Sam Segal:

Quite true, LJW. If you're interested, the whole series is pretty powerful: www.flickr.com...

listener james from westwood:

The Havasupai are mentioned in that series! Their tribe is mostly in one small, semi-accessible part of the Grand Canyon. I interviewed a doctor who did shifts at the Indian Health Service station in their reservation. He had to be helicoptered in! Other access options are walking or going on a burro.

the doctor:

Cool, very cool...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks, Doc. We'll keep things cool here for another couple minutes before turning the heat back on.

Selbstmord...does it mean suicide?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
Sam Segal:

I believe so. There's a tune on the record called "Suicide," I know that much.
Avatar 9:55pm
geezerette:

Wow, so glad I couldn't understand the words! Didn't get in the way of the music.
Avatar 9:58pm
geezerette:

You're certainly covering the range of human emotion!

A modest goal, but I try! Thanks for noticing, geezerette.

Do not mind at all,be as Princely as you like!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Sam Segal:

Don't mind if I do. Also, I would be remiss if I forgot to mention that Kurt Gottschalk will be taking to the Drummer Stream again this Thursday from 7-10 PM ET to broadcast the second half of his two-part Prince tribute. The first half was mindblowing and profane. I believe he intends this week's to be mindblowing and profound.
Avatar 11:12pm
geezerette:

Yes,first half was incredible! Looking forward to redemption. :D

Been here for 25 minutes, just checking in, hell ya, Marshall Allen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Sam Segal:

Hey, ngh! Glad you could stop by. That Allen solo blows me away. Did you ever catch the set he did on Brian Turner's show with Charles Cohen and Danny Ray Thompson a few years ago?
Avatar 11:53pm
northguineahills:

ohhhh yeah! I even played w/ Charles 13 years ago (I did turntables). He once came to a barely paying gig in 2002 during a blizzard from Philly. Most of the NYC lineup didn't show up, but he did, albeit a little late. He's an amazing person!
