Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm
coelacanth:

BrianUK so a band called "the wankers" is a variation on a band called "the humpers", essentially? i think here it's used to mean "self-gratification".
(please excuse me people, i like to know the correct meaning of things!)

One entry in OED refers to it as "self-abuse."

I wonder if Part II of "it" is any different from Part I of "it."

I think the self abuse refers back to Onan who spilled his seed and that was not necessarily self gratification.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

The noun of the collective for Bankers is "wunch."

Origin of "wank" is unknown. Could be "echoic," claims Eric Partridge in his 1951 slang dictionary. I'd never heard of "wanker's doom," which is "disability caused by excessive masturbation." Great band name, though.
