Hi Jesse! I think this is the first time I've listened to your show. Like the concept. Music sounds pretty good.

Jesse K:

Hey Mark, Welcome! I can't say the music won't change significantly over the course of these 3 hours but that is the one constant on wfmu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
Gary:

This is terrific

northguineahills:

Good shit. I used to be baffled by most music at gay clubs, as many of my favorite musicians were gay. I thinks finding the genesis of Chicago gay house helped me figure it out.

Never been to the Pulse night club, but I have driven by it many times when visiting my bros.

Gary:

Hey, has anyone heard that new(ish?) Larry Levan CD compilation? I've been eyeing it at Other Music ... which closes in 10 days.
Avatar 7:34pm
Jesse K:

Gary, is that this one?: www.residentadvisor.net...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm
Gary:

Yes!
  7:35pm
northguineahills:

If I had the bread, I definitely pick up the Larry Levan comp.

I like how the Matmos lads supported themselves in college by scoring gay porn soundtracks.
Avatar 7:37pm
Jesse K:

It's pretty great, that Real Love mix is on it. Lots of great essential stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Gary:

Okay, cool -- I might have to pick it up!

Perfect Vaselines cover for the context.

I think Divine did it first?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm

Holy hell what a set!
  8:01pm
northguineahills:

I remember my college gf dragging me to Frankie Knuckles shows back in '95.
  8:06pm
northguineahills:

My Vaseline recs don't credit anyone (including themselves) for any of their songs, but, you're correct.

...on the whole - the Drummer stream is more eclectic
- far subtler - wouldn't you say?...
Avatar 8:10pm
Jesse K:

@northguineahills Your college gf knew what's up! That must have been an incredible show.

doca:

Hey, Jesse K! I'm enjoying the changing moods of the show, though the first set was great
  8:19pm

I probably saw Frankie 6 times I the mid -90s.

Hi Doca! Just unspooling the complicated emotional structures of the week here.
Avatar 8:26pm
Jesse K:

@northguineahills, assuming you grew up in a city, I definitely envy the access that people had growing up in urban areas. Not that Arkansas didn't have it's charm but big name name dj's weren't really on the list.
  8:30pm
doca:

@Jesse K: Tell me about complicated emotional structures these days!

Lasse marhaug and Bruce Russell, a good pairing!

Left the bigger better speakers on from watching Heron Oblivion on Brian Turner's - & the organ tones be impactful...

Gary:

Hey, thanks, Jesse -- I just finished dinner and checked my email!
  8:42pm
northguineahills:

I went to college in Gainesville, FL, which had a a pop of 110k at the time (almost half students). The local techno/house club, would attract people from all over the SE, as it was run by a son of the Albanian mafia . He only hired straight-edge hardcore kids to work the door, and since I was also in that scene (I wasn't straight-edge, just liked the music), and knew the people at the door, I got my gf and me for free all the time. Thus, circumventing the logic of hiring kids w/ no connection to the scene so people wouldn't be let in for free.

Jesse K:

@Rev Rabbit +1 for better speakers! I'm pretty much headphones these days since everyone here can hear right through all the walls
Avatar 8:44pm
Jesse K:

Welcome Gary!
Avatar 8:46pm

@northguineahills, so not a huge city exactly. Sounds like a theoretically sound business plan though, you were probably the exceptional crossover.
