Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

First time tuning in live, and I'm glad this isn't about the MN band

WOW new listener! Hi G'ette and JG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
fred:

I'm checking in because my fave venue is closed for the summer. Otherwise I'd most likely be on my way to Instants Chavirés. Looks like this show features the same kind of music
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
weinstein & ruth:

Where are you listening from Fred?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Jeff Golick:

Hey, David & Ruth. Do you know the work of Travis LaPlante?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
fred:

I'm in the southern suburbs of Paris, France
  2:25pm
David W & Ruth:

We were guessing Montreal. Are there two of them?
  2:26pm
David W & Ruth:

Travis LaPlante, hmm. Brooklyn musician but not familiar with the work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
fred:

I don't think so. Instants Chavirés is just East of Paris. I know, I should have moved there by now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
fred:

Is this D. Watson as in David, bagpipes genius?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm
Jeff Golick:

Looks like IC is in a suburb called "Montreuil" - that could be confusing.

LaPlante has been doing some really interesting horn work, under his own name and now as an outfit called Battle Trance. And then there was his amazing stuff with Little Women. Worth a look-see!
  2:34pm
David W & Ruth:

Watson is the bagpipe Watson yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm
fred:

@Jeff G: Yeah, more than a few bands got confused and showed up at the same address but in Paris. People at the venue are very familiar with that other place
  2:35pm
David W & Ruth:

OK we both think we know LaPlante because we know these projects but have not had a close encounter. Will keep an ear out, thanks.
  2:37pm
David W & Ruth:

Now I'm confused but I'll sort it out next visit to Paris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
fred:

@Jeff, David and Ruth: IC is certainly a place to visit. The other one would be La Dynamo in Pantin (not Paris proper either, Paris is for deep-pocketed people)

doctorjazz:

Hi. Nice set. (got here late, listened to Femi Kiti on Soundcheck. I'll take my demerit).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
fred:

Kuti listening should earn no demerit (but that's a suspiciously good excuse)
  2:55pm
David W & Ruth:

Ruth is educating me on Femi Kuti now, he's at Brooklyn Bowl tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
doctorjazz:

That's why he was appearing. Wish I could get out there...

Such gorgeous music.
(Hi fred & doctorjazz)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm
fred:

I wish I could see Femi. I did see Seun, but from what I heard he's not the best brother. And of course I'll never see Fela himself

Someone has their circular breathing down great! (or is it a loop? sounds like it's being played).
Hiya Geezerette.

jessie:

Ha, I heard you, Ruth. This is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
fred:

This reminds me of Colin Stetson
  3:11pm
David W & Ruth:

He sneaks in some electronics but yes, his circular breathing is fab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm

Really loving it!

Well, I finagled a VIP pass and free beer so... Any tips on what to see of the 5,000 shows?
