Hi all. Each week, 100% Whatever with Mary Wing does a Three of a Kind segment. She occasionally fills the whole second hour with the covers.

So much banging going in here.

I'm imagining the sound of an over-inflated squirrel carcass when the sun warms it up a little too much.

!!! Oh Rich, quick coincidence… This week when I was getting lunch I saw a bloated rat caracas on the street. So bloated and round it made me understand where football came from.

Ariana Grande's coming up, right? And Iggy?
  12:32am
P-90:

That Mandragora Scream version alomost had a late Marianee Faithful vibe on the vocal
  12:33am
JakeGould:

@rich: Right around the corner from the food truck I was going to. Then later on I saw a dead pigeon. And then later on past that I saw some yellow-sparrow like bird. Like a warbler? Day of small animal death for me!

Enjoying it! Just gets better!

Somewhere out there, Sonny Bono is having a great night. I happen to know he often listens to Rich's show, don't ask me how I know, it's complicated

  12:45am
P-90:

Iggy? There's an Iggy version? I'm so out of it...
  12:47am
JakeGould:

@rich: Kind of like the way, Mary Hopkin’s version of “Those Were the Days” is really beloved by elderly Jews around the world. And why not?
  12:48am
Dean:

There's an Iggy "Bang Bang." Not sure it's a version. Is Rich playing the same tune by several performers or several tunes all dubbed "Bang Bang"? (I'm not listening, actually.)
  12:49am
P-90:

@rich: this is EXACTLY the kind of thing the Italians latch on to. And don't let go of.
  12:52am
rw:

Rich, I'm curious, was there a particular version you heard that inspired tonight's theme?
  12:53am

  12:56am
rich:

when i was in italy i found two singles one by dalinda one by equipe 84 that were priced a little too high so i didn't buy them then the king of all music asked the staff for songs that have at least 3 distinct cover versions and i was going to send him a few and then i fell down the rabbit hole and suddenly had 90 different versions and 3 hours to fill
  1:02am
JakeGould:

Sweet rabbit hole.

i believe that needs an exclamation point jake. place it wherever you want.

Thanks Rich! But you played the Dalida 7". Borrowed?

Almost half way through and I'm still not sick of this song... Weird. It seems like one I'd tire of pretty quickly.
  1:24am

i thought the same thing rw but there's enough variation to keep it interesting.

a description that i don't believe has ever been uttered regarding the inflatable squirrel carcass
  1:42am
JakeGould:

@Rich: Ha! FWIW, “Bang Bang” reminds me of wandering the King’s Plaza Mall in deep Brooklyn as a kid. Had to be a Muzak version that played while meandering my “Wicks and Shit.”

@Tamar: Cool! They had a Postermat at King’s Plaza? I just remember the 1970s decor it initially had. The only Postermat I knew of—and patronized—was the one on West 8th Street in the Village.
  2:23am

Tamar:

@JakeGould: You're right, Postermat was on 8th St. What was the poster store in Kings Plaza?
  2:43am
JakeGould:

@Tamar: Some guy with posters? It could have been a pseudo-head shop as well. Kings Plaza in the 1970s was still filled with mom and pop stores. Maybe a branch of “Brain Damage” that was on Coney Island Avenue near “Crazy Eddies” that lanced in the mall?
  2:49am
Tamar:

@JakeGould: Wow! Good memory. I really don't remember. Some kind of precursor of Spencer Gifts/

Fox (Rā-chul):

Man, I went to the Newport mall last week, and it's the first time I went to a mall for any length of time in YEARS, and... mall culture died with the internet, didn't it? I guess parents don't drop their kids off at the mall for hours at a time in the summer anymore. Why would they when they have phones? It's a common space built on nothing but commerce, but I enjoyed the existence of crazy teenagers wandering in packs.
