Unpopular opinion: Quantum Leap was bogus! No monsters? No aliens? Basically no interesting villains at all? Never going into the future? BORING!
  9:17am
JakeGould:

@Ike: Can you say something nice about episodic television for once, please?
Avatar 9:20am
Ike:

Sure. The Incredible Hulk was awesome sometimes (mainly because of Bill Bixby). And MacGyver... well, it was often overrated, BUT it was SUPER awesome to have a hero who didn't use a gun and did clever brainy stuff to get out of scrapes.

PEACE all,..STILL an out of work Mechanical Engineer near Buffalo NY....Northern Exposure was a pretty cool show....as was Barney Miller. and Taxi.

The signal is breaking up, or the CD or record is on the interweb....it was a minute ago...all that's missiing is Killing Joke playing "Eighties". Signal died...is it me??

@sugarwolf: I don't pay attention to reboots but I've generally found them to stink. Wonder who is going to be T.C.?

Marty, I think you might be the most eclectic DJ on WFMU. Which is quite the feat.

Shriekback, SoM--just the kind of music at the center of the new book by Tim Lawrence - Life and Death on the New York Dance Floor, 1980-83 which is out TODAY if i'm not mistaken
  9:42am
famous original italianicewolf:

@Joshua Fried: I really want to read that book!!

yeah, can't wait for the book--there are excerpts online already (sanctioned ones) on FB. I'm *in* it--fleetingly. Many NYC and London events surrounding the book.

His earlier Love Saves the Day was about 1970-79 and thematically centered on The Loft.

I asked an opera loving friend, "is this an opera bootleg"? He hemmed and hawed and said it kind of was but the artists tended if not encourage them, tended to look the other way.

Oh man, Marty, I found an OG copy of Palmieri's 'Harlem River Drive" a couple of weeks ago at a store here and about hit the ceiling. But then I saw the $40 price tag and said "aw crap" out loud. I guess that is a pretty good price, but still too rich for my blood.

Marty I love your show- every week . Its always different yet familiar. Keep doing what you do and don't change a thing , unless of course you do- in which case, do that instead.

There was a dude in my neighborhood that had his high school art teacher paint the Powerslave cover on the back of his denim jacket. So gnarly, wish I had a picture of it.

It seems Coleridge poetry inspired at least two songs - the Mariner and Xanadu
