I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Good afternoon Mayuko and dizzy listeners. I'm going to have a bad week, so this is a welcome deep breath of greatness before diving into that
Avatar 12:02pm
Mayuko:

Good afternoon, fred! Is that surgery related??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
fred:

@Mayuko: Pre-op tests. Two days stranded there. On Monday I have to be there at 8:30 (tough enough) with no coffee allowed for 12 hours before that. To top it off buses are diverted so I'll probably have to walk there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
fred:

I love this picture. Where was that taken?
Avatar 12:12pm
Mayuko:

No coffee allowed for 12 hrs sounds torturing. I hope it all goes well, fred. This picture was taken in my neighborhood. In a big oak forest in Queens NY.
Avatar 12:13pm
Mayuko:

... In the part of not-oak-tree-zone of the oak forest, haha. I should just say "forest".

fred:

That's my new desktop background. My plan is to go straight from the hospital to a Japanese weirdness show on Tuesday: Hedoromeruhen with Hiko opening

listener james from westwood:

Been listening mobile for a bit but happy to be in the office w/ the Vertigo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
fred:

This Vivenza track is beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
listener james from westwood:

Sending good wishes, fred—hoping the PITA factor is as minimal as it can be and the eventual procedure goes smoothly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
fred:

@James: Thanks. I guess the 12-hour coffee ban is a step toward accepting the ordeal to come. My main worry is getting heart surgery done without losing my job. I'm betting on taking vacation days and pretending nothing happened
Avatar 12:34pm
Mayuko:

@fred Oh, I wish I had a hi-res one of that picture then! I didn't know Hedomeruhen, but quick googling told me they seemed to have shows at the event where a friend of mine often plays too. The scene they're part of is definitely weirdest part of Tokyo underground music scene.
Avatar 12:35pm
Mayuko:

and belated HALLO to james! in the OFFICE on a Saturday?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
fred:

@Mayuko: What is the performing name of your friend? I'd love to check out his/her music. And maybe drop a word to the good people at Instants Chavirés
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm
listener james from westwood:

@Mayuko: Yep, post-vacation backlog and two wicked end-of-month deadlines. Would rather be volunteering at the mini-record fair a few floors below you, but not to be.
Avatar 12:42pm
Mayuko:

@fred A friend of mine's name is Naoki Sato, he plays guitar in a band called Gyunyu-Hanabi 牛乳花火 and the event is called Paint Your Teeth... I never been because they started after I had left Tokyo. David Hoenigman organizes it and I think Gyunyu hanabi is his band.
Avatar 12:48pm
Mayuko:

@james yeah, I thought you might have been here. too bad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
fred:

"Paint your teeth" seems to have ties to some people in Paris. I might even know some of them. I'll ask around. Looks like they did some Fukushima-related events in Paris, so they definitely know a friend of mine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
fred:

Okinawa in da place!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
fred:

Midas?
Avatar 12:59pm
Ike:

Hello everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
fred:

Marronnier is french for a tree name. Over here it's mainly know as a purveyor of things young kids collect, then throw at each other
Avatar 1:13pm
Mayuko:

Yes! I think that was Midas! I read it when I was a child.
Avatar 1:13pm
Mayuko:

Hellos, Ike!!!
Avatar 1:18pm
Mayuko:

It makes sense that Paint Your Teeth is connected to people there, fred. I guess David knows many people in the experimental music world. A small world!
Avatar 1:20pm
Jason Elbogen:

Fred: hope everything's ok with you and the operation's not to serious. Mayuko: hi!
Avatar 1:21pm
Jason Elbogen:

The station must be busy with the mini-record fair today, I bet.
Avatar 1:21pm
Mayuko:

Good afternoon Jason!! Meant to email you! :o
Avatar 1:24pm
Mayuko:

Seemed like there were a lot of people downstairs which is good, because I (thought I) forgot my key, it was easy to sneak in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
fred:

@Jason: Sorry I missed yesterday's show. I'd rather avoid being out on weekends (too many assholes on the prowl) but a friend had an art show opening so I went and skipped your show
Avatar 1:29pm
Jason Elbogen:

No problem; just hoping everything's ok with you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
fred:

@Jason: As an ESL teacher, I hope you'll forgive my mistake: it came out as if I was sorry for you that I missed your show. I was selfishly sorry for myself. Archives are there, but time isn't
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
fred:

Prurient back when he was relevant!
Avatar 1:51pm
Mayuko:

Yah this one is quite beautiful! I liked some of his stuff from I think around 2013 too though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
fred:

I know I'm harsh, but I wish he was harsher. These days he seems content with having us smell his leather glove and parody himself
Avatar 1:57pm
Mayuko:

Parody of oneself seems to be very hard thing to avoid, for some reason. Many people fall in that trap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
fred:

From what I heard, he's still a great guy, and helpful too. A great guy all around, but struggling with what passes for fame in these circles
Avatar 1:59pm
Mayuko:

This is my last track today - thank you all for listening!
Avatar 2:00pm
Mayuko:

That's good to know - at least people should stay nice, great, decent human beings no matter what!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm
fred:

Already? You should go one hour more, so that you spend more time in the studio than the train
Avatar 2:06pm
Mayuko:

It did feel super short, I guess especially because of the last week's 3 hours! I'll go downstairs to check the mini record fair for today...
Avatar 2:07pm
Mayuko:

Wish you good luck with the operation test thing, fred! Have a great week, everyone, see you next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm
fred:

That's the best reason ever to stop your show. I wish I could go there
