Don't blame me. I voted for Kodos!

listener james from westwood:

I'm here. Not sure how chatty I'll be b/c my tongue (and fingers) are as yet, intemperate in expression, but hugely appreciate your being on the air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Amanda:

Thank you James! I appreciate it. If anybody wants to sound off here, I welcome it and I hope you do. I have some thoughts of my own that I will share either typed or said.

@Ken HP No abortions for anyone!

hey Amanda! now i only get to listen to the first 30 mins of your show now because my class starts at 9:30... but my students who come early get to listen too!

Amanda:

That is great steve! Hi students, you're amazing.

I slightly want to remove this dog-comfort gif because it's slowing my computer down. But if it's working for you all, I will keep it!

Morning Amanda and Nazario-ites around the world. We got through W, we'll get through Drumpf.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am

If ever there were a day where folks could bring dogs around to offices, public squares, etc. simply for folks to hug, pet, cry on, etc., not unlike the dogs who visit hospitals, well, this would be a great week for it.

Which is to say, Amanda, you've got my dream job right now. :)

"We're connected, we shouldn't be divided."

Connections and interactions between people is the only thing I truly value in this world. Its the closest to religion that I get.

Yer' OK, Amanda.

listener james from westwood:

Right for the couple of weeks after 9/11 folks I passed in Midtown made and held eye contact for just a bit longer than they would ordinarily, like long enough to ping that psychic message between me and the other person to say "I'm here. I see you. I know."

Been looking forward to this show since Tuesday night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am
Nate K.:

I'll just say this as far as where I am right now. The idea of connecting with someone on a genuinely human level that voted for Trump feels too difficult right now. But I suppose that will have to change for me at some point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am
Amanda:

Awe, thanks @Nate.

Hey, let's make sure we keep this spirit alive not just for four years but forever. I mean the spirit of standing up for each other, and compassion, and true support, not just lip service. Please?

Quoting a friend (@MortuaryReport on Twitter, if you'd like an awesome person to follow): Stay weird, be kind. #SWBK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am
Amanda:

To Nate's point, I say start with people you already know and like and agree with-- be better to them. Then branch out to people you like and agree with but don't know; get to know them. Then see what happens next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am
Nate K.:

Amanda, that's more or less my plan.

Frangry once mentioned a T-shirt slogan she saw: Let your weirdo light shine bright so that other weirdos can find you.

Good on ya for saying something and also for seeing that his distress may have been temporary/not his best moment. Both are tough.

We all kind of shook our heads and laughed. It is weird, but maybe explainable, how many times I laughed yesterday.

Eminently understandable reaction to the situation, both in the coffee shop and generally.

Hi. Missed too much good stuff already. Ah well.

Have moved somewhat shock/dismay/horror/miserable sadness for the children to something closer to fuck people who are proudly dumb.

But it's a spectrum.

Artie Haywire:

Gutted. But also full fight. Seeking ways to help. Personally and locally first. Active in my refuge of a city. As far as organizations, ACLU, SPLC and SELC top the list. And WFMU, of course. Her soft glow is a beacon for good.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am

@sugarwolf: that kind of "red/blue" intermingling is pretty crucial and less and less a part of our communities. I'm not a proselytizer by nature and wonder how the conversation goes forward across lines now.

This Kool 100s is in the running for Burn It Down! single of the year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am
Jeff Golick:

One small thing: this week has made me remember how crucial my friends and loved ones and radio pals all are to me and my emotional health. If on a personal level the election allows me to seek out others and, as Amanda said, practice more compassion, then that's ok. (Won't mean much in the face of a nuclear holocaust, but isn't it the little things?)

Aight, stepping away from the keyboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
listener james from westwood:

This set is a jewel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
Amanda:

I actually think it would mean a lot in the face of a nuclear holocaust. Or in the face of any number of smaller and more likely acts of violence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am
Stevel:

I can only think about the situation in short bits and pieces, otherwise, I start imagining all of the things that could go wrong and I end up in a spiral of anxiety. Not helpful.

I am attempting to limit my thoughts to what currently exists, and that's where being kind and firm comes in. I like the suggestion of supporting the ACLU. Our laws are pretty good. That's where many battles will be fought.

Obviously, things are still pretty fragmented in my head, but that's OK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am
Nate K.:

I appreciate what appears to be your having put a tremendous amount of thought into this show, Amanda. I was just going to play 'Spray Pain the Walls" for three hours, but now I have to reconsider.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am
Amanda:

@Nate I saw that you played it and that convinced me to play it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
listener james from westwood:

Ahhh, I laughed hard at that Billie Joe imitation. First time in 2 days.
Avatar 11:01am
KP:

I have not heard "I Want to Grow Up to be a Poltician" by the Byrds this year for maybe first ever election cycle. That was only plus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
Nate K.:

I find this HoJo jam perfectly appropriate for the utter absurdity of the moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
Amanda:

I fully support your choice to play Spray Paint the Walls on repeat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
Artie Haywire:

Don't know whether it resonates quite the same outside of the South, but the issues being tackled by the good folks at SPLC are right at the heart of our current situation. Private citizens boldly taking on hate groups, making a huge difference but also making targets of themselves. Worthy of your consideration IMHO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Parq:

Eight years ago, Kenny G marked the results of the 2008 election by playing "Chocolate City" on repeat for three hours. (He was preceding Iriwn in those days, and I couldn't help but wonder how much of that was an in-your-face thing internally.) I shudder to think what someone like Kenny would play on repeat to mark this year's election.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Amanda:

Great suggestion @Artie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am

Fabio's musical choices today may be somewhat wry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
listener james from westwood:

Boy, did the hate for the clip-show format show in this episode!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am

Artie: Agreed, this is a GREAT time to support the SPLC, as many hate groups are showing themselves more clearly. Its a strategic opportunity to know and confront a real enemy of our nation

That might be the part I read as hating the format, and it too makes me laugh. Haw haw, even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am

The show Community had an amazing clip episode where they were in their study room reminiscing, but none of the recalled clips were actually from previous shows that aired. They were all original scenes for the episode, but were told through the structure of a clip show.

Did Moe ever get that cell phone? And did he call Marge's robot brain directly with it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I hear they re-upped The Simpsons for two more seasons. Let's hope they're good ones. Also, there was some internet headline about a second movie. Not sure what are the chances of that happening. The clip where they mentioned President Trump has been going around, too.

This sort of represents my brain in the last 48 hours. Chaotic, with twinges of harmony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am

Now that I have sung it, I realize that the structure of their parody song is different enough from "We Didn't Start the Fire" that it sounds kind of weird sung to the same melody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am
Amanda:

Realizing that along with "American Idiot" I could have played "We Didn't Start the Fire" today, so I am *really* ahead of the game!
