Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. Off and running into the deep....

Holding my breath...

Well, its deep listening not deep breathing so you can let it out.

Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

My neighbor went to school with Elliott at Buffalo. I'll have to refer her to this playlist.

weinstein:

Buffalo was critical to Mr. Sharp's development. Must have been amazing during that time.

Dean:

She is now an architect. She remembers him as being a very sweet, funny guy, obviously devoted to music, many of his performances of which she got to tag along to hear.

And he was very hairy!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
weinstein:

(In case you don't know, he has had a famously shaved head for decades)
  2:50pm
Dean:

Hmm, not once did she utter the word, "hirsute." I am aware of his prominent pate. His new-ish record, by the way, on Clean Feed, is pretty darn good. Features Barry Altschul.
  2:51pm
Dean:

This live set is also pretty darn good!

His Buffalo coif was sort of John Lennon Plastic Ono Band period. I know, shocking.

Jeff Golick:

The image on today's playlist, and the Charles K. Noyes name, brought this album cover to mind: img.discogs.com... -- though I sort of forgot it was bats.

Peeking...

Heh, speaking of neighbors, Greg Goodman lives about 1/2 mile from me.
  3:07pm
Dean:

Heard him play with Evan Parker a few years ago in his living room.

Hi, late arrival today, dig this Sharp/Noyes (could be a band name...)

been in from the start but been busy as a bozo--great stuff today youse two!

I am trying to process the bat thing from Jeff. Kind of organic gross but intriguing? Anyway, good memory!

Thanks all. Always good to have you around.

Elliot often sign his name E#.

"Elliott often signs his name E#."

The neighbor did mention that little datum!

He would kill me if I missed the second T. And I did.

T.S. would have killed for the second L.

listener james from westwood:

That # signature is bloody clever.
  3:20pm
Dean:

This Drasin brings to mind (ear?) the weird Nik Pascal records of the '70s. Lots of blurps and blorps, and a hot pink sticker across the cover reading, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS IF YOU ARE STONED.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
weinstein:

Well, we are re-seeing and re-hearing lots of sounds re-discovered by a new generation these days (witness the ageless Pauline O palette delights on this show!) and nothing wrong with that. Until nothing is happening.
  3:38pm
Dean:

Absolutely. I wonder why those Pascal records don't get more airplay. They're not all that "serious," but they sure can be compelling, even if YOU ARE NOT STONED.

Ok! Looking at the Ingrid Laubrock show.

BTW, if you haven't yet seen it, this article about Oliveros and her relationship with her mother is so so good: www.houstonpress.com...

Hmm. The mother. Wow. Will do.
