The Faith No More cover of I Started a Joke is excellent, if only for the video.

Ken From Hyde Park:

One morning last week, Ken played three hours of "Institutionalized" covers. On one of them, I thought "Gaa...I know that voice." Just before it finished, I figured out it was you, Therese.

Have you read Ethan Mordden's One More Kiss? It's about musicals of the 70s

Mary Wing:

Hi Therese and folks! I never saw Pippin, but I distinctly remember seeing this commercial on TV:

Therese, it would drive me nuts to write notes for the show and leave them at home. You can save your stuff in something like Dropbox and they'd be on your phone wherever you go. Tons of choices like that if you fancy that kind of thing ("Notes" on Apple stuff, Evernote, etc.). Great show nonetheless!
Avatar 10:48pm
Therese:

Hi Mary! They don't make Broadway commercials like they used to, do they?
  10:49pm
Marc15:

I love the commercial Mary
  10:50pm
sugarwolf:

There are some good I Love NY commercials with Broadway casts (1979??) on YouTube
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Uncle Michael:

Stepped away and missed it! I saw John Rubenstein, Ben Vereen, Jill Clayburgh and Irene Ryan in Pippin.
  10:53pm
JakeGould:

@sugarwolf: Like this one that features everyone who can be mocked in an SCTV sketch, right? youtu.be...
  10:54pm
JakeGould:

@UncleMichael: We’ve got magic for you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm

I thought that show was the coolest thing ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
melinda:

I missed the Pippin too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Uncle Michael:

It was probably the first show I saw on the great white way.
Avatar 10:58pm
Roberto:

I'm still trying to figure out if I saw Pippin. I don't recall seeing it specifically, but the songs seem so familiar. It's entirely possible my parents took me when I was 6 or 7.
Avatar 10:58pm
slugluv1313:

ahh, FOSSE!
thank you, Mary!
(i never got to see PIPPIN either but i do remember that commercial!)
@ Michael -- WOW amazing, you are so lucky!
  10:58pm
sugarwolf:

@JakeGould: I love Cher joining the chorus of La Cage aux Folles!!
  10:59pm
JakeGould:

Didn’t see Pippin, but pretty sure we had to sing “Magic to Do” in elementary school.

Never saw Pippin, but am a devoted fan of Gravenstein.

My short run of annual NYC trips to see shows was in the first half of the '70s. Fond memories of my mother.
Avatar 11:02pm
Mary Wing:

I remember that I<3NY commercial, too! Cher! With her original face, heh!
Avatar 11:03pm
Fox (Rā-chul):

Roberto - I have the same questionable history with Pippin, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Zats, we had no Pippin at all, but I remember our teacher reading Pippi Longstocking stories to us.
  11:12pm
JakeGould:

Oh, don’t worry… The majority of the NYC Board of Ed teachers I had were useless shits. But I do remember that one song being sung at assembly at one point.
Avatar 11:14pm
slugluv1313:

@ JakeGould -- THANK YOU!
LOVE those old commercials! LIZA! BARYSHNIKOV! (anybody remember "Baryshnikov on Broadway"?)
and omg YES! CHER with her original face!!!

  11:33pm
wendy del formaggio:

Wow! Jimmy McMillan! The rent is still too damn high!
  11:47pm
JakeGould:

You’re welcome everyone liking those commercials! Doesn’t it seem like things back then were actually a bit more culturally even than they are now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Therese. Have a nice week. No doubt there'll be much to talk about by the time your on again next Sunday night.
