Yeah, I'm not made of tough enough stuff for this dimension. I need to find the portal to the parallel Earth where Eisenhower's head on a robot body is president-for-life, and would-be demagogues are thrown in the pit to duke it out w/talking gorillas in place of reality TV. The only problem is, Upsala College still exists in that reality, and WFMU is forced to broadcast their basketball games. But you know, each parallel Earth has its pros and cons.

Do we all really have to continue with the circular firing squad, @Rinma? @Bugaboo? Really? Don't like the DNC but they were never proven to have done anything wrong. Just a lot of talk puffed up by Russian hacks aimed at leading to exactly this outcome. I voted for Bernie but he didn't move quickly enough to introduce himself to African-Americans in places like SC. You're just talking a lot of unproven surly sore-loser rubbish just like Putin wants you to. Keeping us divided so the useful idiot can remain in power for 8 years not just 4.

Kinda tired of hearing that “fake news” affected this election. People believe what they want to believe. Period.

If anything voter turnout that can directly be traced to the Democrats being obsessed with “big data” (aka: “the model”) and ignoring ground level campaigning in key states is what I believe contributed strongly to low to apathetic voter turnout.

Avatar 11:19pm

Just a bunch of talk about how much they didn't like Bernie. No actions, no proof. You're Putin's puppet on this. He engineered this outcome. And you'll whine that the candidate in 2020 is a "big-money Dem" and believe more Russian crap and doom us to another 4 years of President Orange Shitgibbon.

Rimma:

Peace and. LOve :))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm

@Jake: there are several factors that affected the outcome but the one you mentioned is a major one that has gotten lost in the hooha over Russian interference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm

It is interesting that people want to narrow it down to just one reason when there are many.

Trump campaign was a publicity that went too far. Putin helped out and here he is as POTUS. He won't last long because he can't control himself.
Avatar 11:27pm
Ike:

@Jake and @Melinda, there's that too. IMO though, the main factor is charisma. Dukakis, Kerry, Gore, HRC -- all losers, all stiff and charisma-free. JFK, LBJ, Carter in first term (against charisma-free Ford, until outshone by a pro actor), Bill, Obama -- all high charisma. Many don't care that much about policy. They vote for magnetism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I think the biggest factor was an inability to understand why people were motivated to vote for Trump and the continued belief that we were all safe to assume that he had a very small isolated pocket of the electorate. Even now, after all the projections failed, we're still trying to frame his supporters as this particular isolated block. Bernie may have one by playing the anti-establishment candidate. Trump's vicious attacks against Bernie may have received the exact same apathetic shrug that most of attacks against Trump received. Reality is, we're talking about an election that some people predicted, and for other it stood outside of everything thought of as rational.
  11:30pm
Fox (Rā-chul):

The DNC dropped the ball and chose to push Hillary, a politician who has been proven to be truly hated by the right (whether justifiably or not), instead of an antiestablishment guy who had broad support or both sides of the political spectrum they had in Sanders. Hillary herself overestimated her ability to win. The DNC underestimated the right, or just straight up ignored the lower classes and easily led.
  11:30pm

the biggest thing about the polling info was simply that most schmucks wouldn't cop to voting for him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm

i guess it's too scary for people to consider the very strong possibility that this shit is rigged COMPLETELY and has been at least since bush's first term.
  11:32pm
JakeGould:

I didn’t like Hillary Clinton. But I voted for her because I didn’t want Donald Trump. I’m sure there are people who similarly didn’t like Donald Trump, yet voted for him because they didn’t want Hillary Clinton.

My proof? The fact that Bernie Sanders made it as far as he did.

Here is a good article about the Michigan campaign. I work with computers and deal with shaping data all the time; I would never in my life purely trust data to shape a decision. It’s all “Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics” but in the digital age.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
melinda:

@Ike: yes, sadly charisma matters a lot.
@Andrew: good assessment. I could see it going either way for Bernie, I think people overestimated the stigma of the socialist label among independent voters looking for any kind of change (and other than the socialist thing, there wasn't much they could throw at him, really).
  11:33pm

Was pollling rigged? Could be if media is biased. Which it is.

too bad Cruz didn't win. Guy had some sweet ideas. Plus God too
  11:34pm
Fox (Rā-chul):

Trump speaks plainly in black and white terms, and that appeals to poor uneducated people far more than subtlety and shades of grey that politics more often exists in. Hillary is unlikeable to simple white folks who like "traditional" family structure.

Sanders was the guy that the left had on their team that spoke plainly and ACTUALLY had the poor person cred to back it up. Populism is on the rise everywhere. We could have had populism on our side for a change. The DNC chose the wrong horse to endorse.
