Visible here! Good afternoon, Tony and all.

Hey there, Mayuko!!

Hi Tony! Nothing says Valentine's day like K7s. Well, maybe there's something more romantic.
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Henry! Well, today's graveyard photo is kinda romantic -- for goths, anyway.
Avatar 12:10pm
Tony Coulter:

And, of course, the song that just finished is perfect for Valentine's Day.
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

By the by, the cassette on now is the red one on the left.
Avatar 12:20pm
Carmichael:

Heya Tony and listeners.

Ahoy, Carmichael!

hi tony, hello coulter-tines!
Avatar 12:23pm

Hola, JtotheK, you JtotheK-er!
Avatar 12:25pm
Tony Coulter:

There's a definite kinship between the Tom & Marty Band and the German Shepherds, no?
  12:26pm
Mark in Kingston:

Oh man that stigmata song was great!
Avatar 12:27pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey Mark! Glad you approve!
Avatar 12:28pm
Tony Coulter:

I'm talking about these German Shepherds, of course: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 12:39pm
Tony Coulter:

A funny thing about the (original) cassette-underground scene: It died not long after cassettes became much better, sound-quality wise. Kind of bad timing.
Avatar 12:41pm
Tony Coulter:

"Original" as in late-'70s to early '90s.
  12:41pm
Dean:

Was in a store yesterday that sold Valentine's Day greeting cards with found mix tapes affixed.
Avatar 12:42pm
northguineahills:

I believe I've only heard the Tom & Marty Band via Tony. All good stuff!
Avatar 12:42pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Dean! Wot an idear!
Avatar 12:44pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey hey, NGH! Yep, the Tom & Marty Band are great. As mentioned, they are connected to some other fine bands, such as Famous Actors from Out of Town and Idio Savant.

Sorry for the chaos! My keyboard froze up on me for a bit. 'Tis back to normal now.

Not a little Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft escaping from that last tune.

In since the git-go via the magic of the iPhone app, but happy to be hearing it on the big speakers back home!
Avatar 1:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey ho, James! Crank those speakers!
Avatar 1:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Paul Rudolph (on now) was in ... the Pink Fairies!
Avatar 1:16pm
Tony Coulter:

... and ... Del Dettmar of Hawkwind is on the flipside of the tape.

For a moment I thought you meant Peter Frampton!

Is anybody having no listening? It's weird
Avatar 1:20pm

hola!
Avatar 1:21pm
Tony Coulter:

Hi, Scraps. I'm not aware of any current technical difficulties (just you wait, though).

Whoop! Never mind! Here we going now
Avatar 1:21pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey hey hey, Cecile!

Frampton's live album sold only slightly better than the Fairies'.

This Paul Rudolph/Gerald Toon piece is very enjoyable.
Avatar 1:27pm
Tony Coulter:

Glad you like it! I have a cassette by Gerald Toon and Del Dettmar (of Hawkwind), which I will air on Tape Hiss eventually.

This Nelson track is a delight.
Avatar 1:30pm

It souds very like Can

The last track
Avatar 1:32pm
Tony Coulter:

Glen Nelson was in a bunch of Canadian new wave bands -- none of which I've heard -- such as Dance Speak, Images in Vogue, Mobile Clones....
Avatar 1:33pm
Tony Coulter:

More to explore....
  1:35pm
Dean:

Would have felt at home in Vivabeat.
Avatar 1:39pm
Tony Coulter:

I highly recommend the Melodic Energy Commission (on now) -- they have some really stellar releases: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Webhamster Henry:

This show is like flipping the pages of OPtion zine.
Avatar 1:49pm
Tony Coulter:

It also makes me want to dig up the issue of C.L.E.M. I have lying around here somewhere.
Avatar 1:51pm
Tony Coulter:

It's funny how almost no Canadian new wave–type music reached us here in the '80s.
Avatar 1:54pm
Carmichael:

I don't know how I found Pretty Green, a new wave/celtic/Americana band from Toronto. Ed Blocki was their leader in the 80s, and that's all I know.
Avatar 1:54pm
Tony Coulter:

AHA! I just found my CLEM! It was in a bookshelf right behind me.
Avatar 1:55pm
Tony Coulter:

It's the April 1986 edition.
Avatar 1:57pm
Scraps:

Martha and the Muffins, Jane Siberry... not much. Weird.
Avatar 2:05pm
Tony Coulter:

Paul Dolden (on now) has a bunch of really great and very unique electroacoustic releases: www.discogs.com...

He's gotten a fair amount of airplay on FMU over the years...
Avatar 2:08pm
Tony Coulter:

Here's a blogpost about C.L.E.M.: smallprintpress.blogspot.com...
Avatar 2:14pm
Tony Coulter:

By the way, blackhumour (on now) is too cool for initial caps.
Avatar 2:21pm
Tony Coulter:

Surely, this Tunnel Canary track is perfect Valentine's Day music?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
listener james from westwood:

Works on this side!
Avatar 2:24pm
northguineahills:

Tunnel Canary sounds like it could be something contemporary on Hospital Productions Recs.
Avatar 2:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Agreed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm
Stanley:

Er, something like "Darling I didn't get you a card but I'll play this Tunnel Canary track for you instead"
Yep, that should do it.
Avatar 2:26pm
Tony Coulter:

Exactly! (Hey, Stanley!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Stanley:

Hey, Toe-Knee
Avatar 2:34pm
Tony Coulter:

Not just the sound quality of the tape itself, but some of the electronics they use make me pretty sure this Tragtenberg & Sukorski demo is from the '90s. But who knows....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Stanley:

Done it again. Commenting on one stream, listening on another. What a dork!
Avatar 2:37pm
Tony Coulter:

Next time, try listening to both streams at the same time.
Avatar 2:38pm
northguineahills:

Well, we had a good run in '82, and then Tony had to go ruin it..
Avatar 2:39pm
northguineahills:

Do you have an idea where this duo is from?
Avatar 2:39pm
Tony Coulter:

Brazil
Avatar 2:39pm
Tony Coulter:

(despite their names!)
Avatar 2:48pm
northguineahills:

I see an official release (albeit a bootleg) from 1997, entitled, " São Paulo, a Symphonia da Metrópole" rateyourmusic.com...

Could be the same piece based on the titles, or maybe this is just a tidbit from the larger piece?
Avatar 2:51pm
Tony Coulter:

Could be related -- tho I don't see the same track titles.
Avatar 2:54pm
Tony Coulter:

I recently ended up with a chunk of Hildegard Westerkamp's cassette collection -- this demo was in there. Tragtenberg & Sukorski were new to me, which is why I don't know much about this thing.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 2:56pm
listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Tony!
Avatar 2:57pm
Tony Coulter:

Thanks, everyone! See you next week!
