All those reasons. The BeeGees stepped out of Rawk - were massively successful in Disco - & eclipsed their earlier stuff. The general masses *do* recognize them as great singers & Popsters - for their 70s stuff. I happen to be old enuff I heardz the 60s BGs on the radio & always loved it & it's evocative for me that way. Explorer's Room had a mass of it : www.wfmu.org... To hell w/ the RR Hall of Fame - generally. Except as a Museum. There's kewl stuff there.

Break My Stride was February 1984. I used to be able to tell you the month and year of any pop record's highest chart position... but I'm slipping with that. But I remember that one because of being off school. I can also tell you what episodes of Remington Steele aired those 2 weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Not being *over*-exposed can make a huge difference. Also - no longer the context of factions? Defining yourself as much by what you don't like as do like! Modernism was more earnest? I can still have a hard time w/ that tho'...Disco, for instance - in my small town was for the jocks & straights & Rawk for - us. In the city - Disco was often for minorities & gays & hard drug users. Practically the opposite!

Everyone who's 12-14 will love the music he/she is hearing at that time and probably will be following the charts. I know every song that was in the Top 40 in 1967, but I couldn't name any song that is in the Top 40 right now. Really, I can't. I can tell you every a-side and b-side of the first 10 Bee Gees singles, but didn't like their 70's stuff. Even of my all time favorites The Kinks, I didn't like Lola. And that was the only song in NL that made it to #1 twice in different versions: in '70 (studio) and in '80 (live)
