How can you guys be at 16 percent already, it seems odd to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Nate K.:

"What happened to you, Kenny Loggins, you used to be cool (according to Joe Belock)?"
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm James in ATL:

Mouse Pledge to Joe - Three Chord Monte is my favorite show on WFMU. Thanks Joe and best of luck with the marathon.
  12:21pm Amy:

Ooh, I'm a Swag for Life member, but I might have to throw in a bit more cash to be entered in the drawing. I love prizes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm charbird:

Charlie from CA checking in! Just made my pledge so I'm ready!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm -Ken:

Aaron, a good chunk of that 16% was the current Swag for Life pledgers choosing new shows to pledge their love to - the renewal emails went out Saturday and Sunday.
Avatar 12:24pm CDToaster:

@Aaron in Minneapolis: Many listeners pledge to particular shows before they're actually aired. They're called pre-Marathon pledges.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Once we soak Andy Breckman (Wednesday 6:15 PM EST), expect to see the percentage number to go way, way up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Hopefully a gum free Andy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm doctorjazz:

Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band do a great version of this oldie as well (heard them do it with Geoff Muldaur)
  12:29pm Bluesman:

Good luck Joe! Hopefully some of your devout listeners are liquidating a portion of their portfolios to help keep WFMU going another year!
Avatar 12:30pm Carmichael:

Heya Joe & Matt, re-swagging for life soon!

  12:33pm SeanG:

it sure does Nate K.!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Nate K.:

It was David Johansen! Pow! (Kidding, a simple mistake, they fell off and a dancer crushed them.) I'm back in business, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Uncle Michael:

There's another Joe that knows what 15x24 means.
Avatar 12:43pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Uncle Michael:

Were Tommy Scott & the Senators recorded by Joe Meek?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Uncle Michael:

I love DCT!
Avatar 12:53pm Carmichael:

Just read about DCT last night. He's in Robbie Robertson's bio that I just cracked open.
Avatar 12:53pm Joe B:

The next prize currently up for grabs is Bloodshot Bill - Guitar Boy. CD on Norton records! Not on Spotify yet! Amazing album from the heir apparent to Hasil Adkins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Uncle Michael:

Robbie...gotta love a guy that writes his own hagiography.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm joe:

"Get rid of your phone!" Or switch from a crummy unlimited plan that you barely use to a prepaid plan (Virgin Mobile, H20, Bus Station Crackhead Wireless, etc.) and give the HUGE savings to WFMU!
Avatar 1:14pm Cecile:

so many bands of that time were inspired by them. Michael Yonkers thinks of them fondly.
Avatar 1:15pm Cecile:

I'm on Consumer Cellular, that also fits the bill.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Ken From Hyde Park:

We have companies like Lyft, Uber, etc. for ride sharing. My invention is going to be cell phone sharing (party line for cellular phones). When I get rich from this invention, I'll kick some cash back to WFMU.
Avatar 1:21pm KP:

Sorry my computer went into a Joe B loop.
Avatar 1:22pm Joe B:

The current prize drawing is for Mike Waggoner & the Bops - Kings of Minnesota Rock & Roll LP. the originators of Minnesota stomp, well before the Trashmen unleashed Surfin Bird on America. In fact, the Trashmen claim that the Bops were, “the biggest thing around” when they themselves were teenagers getting hooked on the big beat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Uncle Michael:

I sailed on the loop Joe B.
Avatar 1:28pm KP:

That was it!
Avatar 1:28pm ɨkɛ:

@KFHP, that sounds like cellular COMMUNISM! You dirty commie pinko! I love it.
  1:30pm James "Flood" Johnson:

Very tolerant of S.M. Ken to let you play "The Grizzly Bear".
Avatar 1:33pm Cecile:

I read chunks of Trouble Boys and it ground up my soul and broke my heart. My Replacements love is one of my few regrets.
Avatar 1:34pm Cecile:

They were classic narcissistic abusers. Great at times, but too close to home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm dgg:

wow I gotta read this
Avatar 1:39pm Joe B:

Current prize up for grabs is Trouble Boys : The True Story of The Replacements by Bob Mehr. Simply one of the best rock bios ever written! A must-read! Pledge now to get in the drawing!
Avatar 1:39pm Cecile:

I mean as a MES and a Captain Beefheart fan I know from assholes, but I think because they were from a similar area, background, were the same age, I identified way too much with them. They taught me an important lesson, though.

Alec's bar band stuff was wonderful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Matt F:

Come on folks! Don't make me use this comments board! Pledge Now! WIN!
👻 Swag For Life Member 1:39pm ahacksaw:

I was a Replacements camp follower for a long time, and I haven't been able to read Trouble Boys yet. It just sits there staring at me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Tim 07030:

The Replacements book is worth it just for the Tommy getting tied to the bed story. And go, Joe, go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Michael 98145:

[ ... but how great was this music ?? ]
  1:40pm SeanG:

chilton did a great version of michael jackson's "Rock with you" too!
Avatar 1:40pm Cecile:

ahacksaw, if part of you still loves them unconditionally, then read it. If not, then don't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm doctorjazz:

Great Mats version!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Matt F:

We are only at 1% of our modest $1,300,00 Goal!
Avatar 1:41pm Cecile:

For the first three records and Pleased to meet me they were great.
👻 Swag For Life Member 1:41pm ahacksaw:

@Cecile, no part of me still loves them unconditionally. Part of me still loves them, but very conditionally.
Avatar 1:43pm Cecile:

I would try a paragraph or two, and if you feel like you are going to throw the book against the wall, start screaming, or going to the mirror and yelling "idiot! idiot! idiot!" at yourself, please stop.
  1:43pm SeanG:

it's only rocknroll but I LIKE it
Avatar 1:43pm Cecile:

Those things may or may not have happened to me while reading it online.
Avatar 1:45pm Cecile:

Joe is right, though, it is a terrific book that I can never read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Tim 07030:

Great title on this album.
👻 Swag For Life Member 1:47pm ahacksaw:

I started reading it, and the Bob stuff brought back some not-good memories. Didn't make it past that.
👻 Swag For Life Member 1:48pm ahacksaw:

@Tim, I liked it so much I named my cat after it. (They were born around the same time.) He was the best cat ever, too.

Apropos of left of the dial, I just wanna say that I hear some Westerberg stuff most times I go to the grocery store. This is even hard to get my brain around than Blitzkrieg Bob at the 7th inning stretch.
  1:51pm SeanG:

hahaha! if i had a million I'd drop it on fmu right now!
Avatar 1:52pm Tomophobic Tom:

Gerald Posner's Motown book is pretty tell all. I guess a lot bedwetting stories is tell all, probably....
Avatar 1:53pm ɨkɛ:

At Shoprite, Tom? Weirdly, they often have surprisingly decent music in there, way better than any other supermarket.
Avatar 1:53pm Joe B:

ha Tom! same here!

greetings everyone, thanks for tuning in, and thanks everyone who has pledged! little behind on the comments today but thanks!
Avatar 1:54pm Tomophobic Tom:

Kroger here in Detroit. Is a shoprite something you bring to the game for autographs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Michael 98145:

@Tom, how about "Lust For Life" being used in tv commercials ?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Tim 07030:

The only place that plays better music than the Shoprite in Hoboken is FMU
Avatar 1:57pm Tomophobic Tom:

@ Michael and it gets worse Search and Destroy for Audi - "intelligence is the new rock n roll" they say. Intellect this.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Guido from Cologne:

Great concert actually!
Seen it on arte TV
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm doctorjazz:

So, one thing that is sad about the SFL pledge is, I WANT EVERYTHING being offered for a prize, but not sure how to get in for it (unless I put in even more, which I often do). Back in the day, part of the fun of the marathon was making multiple $10 pledges (pre pledge inflation) over the course of the drive to try to win all this stuff.
(it's really superficial and greedy, of course, but that's just how it is.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Michael 98145:

Iggy! www.youtube.com...
Avatar 2:23pm Joe B:

also current prize up for grabs is Prix - Historix. Lp of legendary long lost power pop super group out of memphis - Tommy Hoehn, Jon Tiven, Alex Chilton and Chris Bell
  2:24pm SeanG:

wow thought this was mccartney
Avatar 2:30pm dk:

that big star version of whole lotta shakin' feels a lot closer in spirit to big maybelle than jerry lee, and that's a pretty high compliment.
Avatar 2:30pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

@doctorjazz, I think you can just make multiple $20 pledges and then convert to a SFL afterwards. Not 100% sure about that though, so check w/Joe McG. to be sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm doctorjazz:

And if you already did the SFL?
  2:31pm Amy:
