I included Anderson's "I Won't Cry (I'll Just Laugh Myself to Death)" on a past FMU marathon premium!

Know anything about him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm

Nope.

Sir Shambling has a few nuggets: www.sirshambling.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Funky16Corners:

Always a great source of info
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Uncle Michael:

man, I haven't thought about that site in years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Funky16Corners:

I'm there at least once a week, mainly for info on funky/soul sides by deep soul artists
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Funky16Corners:

Freehold NJ's own Motifs, played with the proto-Boss back in the day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Doug Schulkind:

I head over to Sir Shambling's place to verify recording dates. Then I stay and swoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Uncle Michael:

This is my secretly favorite Kinks song. I may have played it on my first show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Funky16Corners:

Cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
Uncle Michael:

Four times...but the first time was on my fourth show or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Uncle Michael:

I mean, if I were to name my favorite, it would probably be something else...but I seem to be drawn back to this time and time again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Uncle Michael:

The funky shuffle slays me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm

Blue Things from my neck of the woods, by the way.

Frank pronounced it RE-PREEZ, accenting both syllables.

And I thank you, sir.

Don't forget Newbury's train songs.

Dean:

I have precisely one Kinks album, not counting the complete series of digital files--which really aren't records by my lights--and it's not among their best. It's Sleepwalker, because I think "Life on the Road" is one of THE BEST pop tunes ever. But my avoidance of Kinks records is a function of intimidation. I grew up with their music. I can't imagine not having heard it. It's so solidly, brilliantly, sublimely (by no means ridiculously) executed that I can't even begin to approach it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Funky16Corners:

I came late to the Kinks myself. Well worth a deep exploration
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Uncle Michael:

Don't be no 'fraid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Doug Schulkind:

Sheila B of WFMU's Sophisticated Boom Boom just told a nice story about spinning that Maggie Thrett tune at a live DJ gig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
Funky16Corners:

I think she met up with one of the cats from De La Soul
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Uncle Michael:

She did, that was cool. Someone else told her who he was. Then she got a picture with him...Mase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Cubs Win:

Yass...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Funky16Corners:

Sly and the Family Stone were so goddamned badass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Uncle Michael:

Yes, but Michael Shrieve was still the coolest person at Woodstock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
Funky16Corners:

No doubt. He popped up in the comments to an old Iron Leg post about a high school band he knew (wasn't in).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Funky16Corners:

I dunno, might have to revise that for Larry Graham
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Uncle Michael:

Shrieve posted? Coolness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah. I'll send you the link sometime. It has something north of 100 comments

Anchovy Paste:

Such great sounds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Uncle Michael:

Shrieve's work on Soul Sacrifice is the best thing from Woodstock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Funky16Corners:

That performance brings me to tears every single time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Uncle Michael:

But Larry Graham is pretty badass.
  11:23pm
Dean:

Yeah, but Shrieve was in Journey, a huge demerit. Then again, Stomu Yamashta's Go was solid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Uncle Michael:

Ronald Isley is currently my all time favorite singer. That changes from time to time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
Funky16Corners:

So much great Isley's stuff, all eras of their career.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Uncle Michael:

Yeah, after little Ernie grows up, he fucking kills me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm

If I may paraphrase Dizzy Dean here: This radio show has testificular fortitude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm

This 45 is brilliant, and thanks!

But I might go a tiny bit long tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm

That would be great! I'm about to pack up my keyboard but not my speakers.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Uncle Michael:

I mean the Georgie Woods trck...he was a DJ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Funky16Corners:

He was indeed! One of the greatest in Philly in the 60s and 70s. Georgie was too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Uncle Michael:

We need Mr. C here to expound on Georgie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
