Good to meet you, Gary, on Friday afternoon Bristol UK time. I'm a reg'lar listener to Bodega Pop but usually on archive the next day. On your rec' I visited Nile Deli in Astoria in April then back in UK threw a wild Egyptian Disco on my 67th birthday. Boy, were those 7 CDs wrapped in greasy saranwrap. I had to wash my hands after unwrapping. Recent shows amazing esp' Ocora's 60 years. I used to travel to Paris in mid' 1970's to buy LPs at FNAC in Les Halles. With 2 friends in Bristol we collected most Ocora LPs. We all listened to your Ocora show. Respect. George Platts.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
listener james from westwood:

And this set, for me, was absolutely perfect for the editing I've been doing. Music from the Arab world is such a huge field, that I won't likely hear the same track twice, and I don't speak Arabic or any other regional tongues, so I won't follow lyrics. Can absolutely attest to some genres and FMU shows being better for nonwork reading. (Verbally intensive shows I can't edit or proof during; clashing waveforms, if you will.) And I can't actually work in utter monastic silence; I need something in the background!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
Gary:

That all makes sense, James! I can do certain tasks while listening, but not editing or writing ... :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
listener james from westwood:

I've worked a few mornings in the recent past at a local Whole Foods that's pretty empty from morning to midafternoon, and even with no headphones on, the background murmur and in-store music is usually fine, less distracting than I'd have thought. But I usually do tap into the WiFi for FMU or hit a podcast/downloaded show. Again, it's that I have nothing hooking me into the ambient noise, unlike an open office seating arrangement, which would be like listening to one end of a million cell calls at once. :P

@James/Westwood - I find when I write in public Steve Reich and the minimalists are the best to have some noise but nothing that really focuses the ear or distracts. Bodega Pop would distract me too much with the rhythms.
