I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

I'm not well these days, it's either because I was on vacation last week or because Mayuko took last week off

Good afternoon, fred and james! I wasn't planning to play Marewrew but I suppose it makes sense to squeeze it into somewhere in today's show.

Hope you feel better, fred. Hello, everyone.

@james: I always get sick when on vacation. Like always. This time is was blood thinners getting supercharged, but it's always something. Good thing I never get away so I can give to the station. Though it seems I'm a liar now

Hello Ken! and Doug!!!
fred, I guess your body knows vacation time is the time that works best to take a break and receive some treatment without interrupting things you need to do. Maybe it's being wise!

It's getting bruised. Now they have to draw blood from my hands, and that's painful for days. But having your show back on the air beats these minor ailments

I saw the Sugar Cubes once at the old 9:30 club in DC. At one point something happened and the band paused while Bork tried to figure something out.
The guitarist & rythmn section start to fill the time by going into a twangy country-western version of their big hit. Bjork turns and gives the guitarist a look that would freeze air solid. They stopped. I would never mess with Bjork about anything, even if I were some evil grey doppleganger.
Avatar 12:58pm
Mayuko:

fred, the whole album is the recording of the ritual from preparation to the end, it's very interesting. Would have played the whole thing if it didn't contain that much Japanese narration explaining what is happening (which is helpful, but doesn't work for radio.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
fred:

@Mayuko: especially when said radio broadcasts to listeners like me who don't understand Japanese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm
Doug Schulkind:

Everyone know you are a kind and beneficent grey doppelganger, Paul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
fred:

@paul b: I would take a chance and mess with Bjork, but about music, no. I don't have that much of a death wish that I'd need it to be mixed with humiliation

Great show today Mayuko, thanks!

that Ryuichi Sakamoto track reminded me (from the other end of my apartment) of the closing track of gentle giant's album "three friends" for some reason. that song would also segue into at last i am free pretty nicely.

Re: Gods being silent, this might be a bit of a tangent, but there was a corny TV series back around 1990 called "War of the Worlds", a loose attempt to do a sequel to the radio series. The invading aliens worshipped a bigger jellyfish-like alien and mocked the humans by saying, "You can't even SPEAK to your GOD!" which was extra spooky and always stuck w/me even though it was mostly a junky and dumb show. What a concept. Anyway, thanks Mayuko!

Tsushima Yuko's novel that came out last year is about an ainu girl's journey with a catholic missionary from hokkaido to nagasaki. She joins kakure christians in kyushu and eventually boards a ship and lands on Macau. She ends up in indonesia at the end of the story far from home but remembers her ainu roots as this one song she heard from her mother as a child... The story was set in the 1600s and was pretty interesting. wonder if you have read it Mayuko. Thanks for the superb show!!

@tmoyo Oh my god! I didn't know her and she's the daughter of Dazai?! I definitely should check that novel out, thanks so much!!!!!!

Hi Mayu, just got back from JPN last week. Re Francis Xavier, you must consider all christian missionaries back then were trained 'Gold miner' looking for gold. He teamed up with JPN lord in the prospect of Gold and wealth if they's believe in Christianity.
