Hey melinda! Hows the recording going?
Avatar 7:20pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

The selections in the first hour were provided by the Cities and Memory project which is crowdsourcing recordings of protest around the world, super interesting project that you can find here: citiesandmemory.com

Free103point9 Recs once put a comp of protest field recordings. I have here somewhere once I get it out of a box.

It's funny, so, I just reached out to Cities and Memory for some recordings they'd be willing to share and they gave me this folder of files. Several weeks ago I reached out to Tsan Cheng-Wu for some of his recordings to play on the show and he gave me a folder that included the same recording of Taipei City!

I remember the earlier Taipei recordings, nice!

Hi Mayuko! hows it going?
Avatar 8:34pm
Mayuko:

Been in packing hell. Moving to Brooklyn. Your musical help is much appreciated here.
Avatar 8:35pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Ah great! Moving is the WORST though, hope all the yelling earlier wasn't too jarring./. The pace gets picked up in the 9 oclock hour
Avatar 8:41pm
northguineahills:

@Mayuko: I'm in unpacking hell, welcome to the club!
Avatar 8:52pm
Mayuko:

It's good that at least you're done with the transport part, northguineahills! Hope we both can settle soon!!! Are you still in Florida?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
melinda:

Do you like where you're moving too, Mayuko?
Avatar 8:53pm
northguineahills:

Yes, I'm in Gainesville, FL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
melinda:

to, not too
Avatar 9:08pm
Mayuko:

@melinda Yeah, I'm sad to leave Queens and I'll miss tall trees here, but I like the new neighborhood too, seems there is a bit more sense of community for artists.

Heya coelacanthø!
Avatar 9:13pm
northguineahills:

My new neighborhood is an old suburbia that is basically a forested area, no lawns, just gardens, and it's walking distance to the downtown area. Plenty of signs that say "no matter where you came from, we are happy you are our neighbor!" (In English, Spanish, and Arabic). There are more Hillary stickers here then I ever saw in Brooklyn (the same amount of Bernie stickers). The complete polar opposite of Jacksonville.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm
coelacanth∅:

ngh that sounds wonderful!
Avatar 9:18pm
Mayuko:

@northguineahills Sounds like you're in a great place! My new neighborhood often has signs in Spanish and Chinese, sometimes with no English and I dunno if they're happy to have a Japanese neighbor. I guess I'll find out what they're supporting.
Avatar 9:40pm
northguineahills:

Well, the suburbs of Jacksonville is one of the most white bread place in the South, and voted close to 84% for Trump in the county I was in. There were Trump banners and Confederate flags(actually the banner for the Army of Northern Virginia, 1863-1865). These people can't even get their vexillology right!

So, yeah, this is welcome change from the last 10 months. (this county voted 72% for Hillary, and it's only less then 60 miles/100 km from where I just moved from)
Avatar 9:41pm
northguineahills:

@Mayuko, sounds like you moved to Sunset Park.
Avatar 9:46pm
northguineahills:

THanks Jesse and Daniel, I'm off to unpack some more.
Avatar 9:46pm
Mayuko:

Whoa, northguineahills! You sure know NYC! I think I'll be Ike's neighbor :)
Avatar 9:51pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Great unpacking northguineahills, have a good two weekas!
Avatar 9:52pm
northguineahills:

I know NYC like the back of my hand, after all I am geographer. (still never had needed to use a GPS for guidance)
Avatar 9:57pm
Mayuko:

Very cool, ngh!

Thank you & happy vacation, Jesse!
Avatar 9:58pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Thanks Mayuko, can't wait! Have a great two weeks!
