A trek through psych rock, modern music, dangling noise, jazz, punk, funk, kid's records played at the wrong speed, cut-ups, static, number stations. Shortwave. Composition du decomposition. Subversive words. You're the guest. Hello.

All right! Welcome back! Beware though! Drooling zombie hippie Deadheads might become enraged at the interruption in their weekly dose of goofy loose-sounding Dead bootlegs and... throw their empty patchouli bottles at you. Then they'll think about possibly chasing or biting you, but something will distract them and they'll wander away.

Nice to hear you on the airwaves, Jonathan! Are you still going to be doing fill-ins on WFMU? I thought you weren't going to be doing shows anymore due to work. Anyway, glad to hear another edition of Blurred and Obscured.

Girls are scared of Jeff. He has an Armadillo in his trousers. Alt-Jeff is good, my bad. As not a Deadhead this is a welcome relief.

Girls - and women - aren't scared of Jeff. It's the other way around, which is why he mostly plays songs by dudes. Alt-Jeff (aka Jonathan) usually has more diverse tastes, hence why I am listening now.

Thanks Mr. Herweg for filling in tonight. Sorry you had to miss that season finale. I haven't seen any of it but I know it's a big deal. My guess is that the conclusion will be more open-ended than conclusive though.

  1:15am
mark Flynn:

Yah, I'm an atheist too, and I'm torn between the tragedy of the people on the ground in the Houston area and the politics of those affected. Those who live in Houston for the most part vote democratic, but as you get to Beaumont you're in serious Trump/ Abbott territory. It's hard to feel empathy for those who sided with Cruz and crew who didn't want to support federal funding for Sandy victims ( many of which were on Statin Island and vote Cruz ). I definitely support full on assistance, but I also know those who support Trump, Cruz, Abbott, and their rep, well they feel like they're getting what's due when in reality they've been takers for at least 30 years.
Avatar 🎙 1:24am
ἶkε:

That's a little harsh. Also, pop. of Houston: 2.3 million. Pop. of Beaumont: 118k. Port Arthur: 55k. So still much more blue than red. Keep in mind only 52% of TX went Drumpf. Dems have to get out there and work on flipping that state. It can be done -- by 2028 at the latest, w/changing demographics it should be very possible, but you have to start now.

Point taken. I think you might be a little more generous regarding leaning democratic than those who vote ( St Louis as an example ). Anger "Trumps" logic. The Republican Party will dominate 2018. Even with owning all branches of government their base is so much more motivated.

In CA: the light is red, there's no cars as far as the eye can see, and they wait for the walk sign. I can't take it.

Great set.

well, mark, i can relate to your secondary point @1.36. it's a symptom of how childish people in adult bodies are, thanks to the government and their media machine.

Avatar 1:56am

Would just like to point out that walking without the walk light is a citation and a heavy fine because 1/5 traffic deaths here are peds flying thru the air. So we're kind of trained, if that is infantile so be it.

I saw a pedestrian fly through the air once. Not at a crosswalk. I think he was okay but he did a cartwheel over the car and had a pretty bad raspberry over a good portion of his body.
  2:02am
mark Flynn:

Hi Fleep, jaywalking is an art that flourishes in the northeast but not elsewhere. Pedestrian injuries are most likely to occur here with the walk sign and the green to go left.

i guess if i lived somewhere that enforced fining people who choose efficiency and conservation of resources by not bringing all traffic to a halt so i can cross no more safely than if i didn't bring all traffic to a halt then i'd have to add looking carefully for cops to my routine of crossing the street without a walk light.
  2:15am
mark Flynn:

Coelacanth: very succinct. If I'm at 96th and Broadway I'm not crossing Willy Nilly, while on 14th street I'm fairly confident, no cars, no bikes, I'm crossing.
  2:20am
23 Skidoo:

22 skidoo and 23 skidoo can be used interchangably. The phrase originated in New York City. It was the result of policemen having to disperse groups of pervey men who would hang out near the 23rd street subway stop to watch womens skirts get blown up by air coming up from the subway airshaft through the sidewalk. 23rd street is the flatiron district and was known for a high concentration of women office workers.
