Still remember when Cannonball's "Mercy" was a top 40 hit. For years, I assumed Cannonball Adderley was a piano player, since that seemed the dominant instrument on that track.
Joe, you been taking notes from John Peel at least you play them at the right speed, generally!
I still miss that man. If you get a chance read this. www.faber.co.uk...
@JakeG: Thanks, Jake. I forgot to bring in the record I wanted to play after that. I promise you, it was a great segueway. Lost forever! @Brian: Ha ha ha, thanks for the link.
No, but it doesn't get talked about enough that "Oh Sweet Nuthin" and "Can't You See" by the Marshall Tucker Band are the same song. Somebody should do that medley at the next marathon finale.
- i remember 10" 16rpm records in the house when i was little. a friend says they were just spoken word but i remember differently.
...i doubt they now make records that no one has a way to play.
I think subconsciously I put Ode to Billy Joe and Harper Valley PTA together because they were both made into movies in the mid 70's. Harper Vally starred Barbara Eden, I believe.
@pantz: I talked about "Ode to Billy Joe" with Robby Benson (!) on the morning show this morning since I played the movie version of "Ode to Billie Joe" (retitled).
New schedule week always gets me excited. And sad at the same time. At least the monday day time schedule is still intact. Because nobody gets me in the right mood for the week like the Monday Joes. Great set as always, McG. THANKS!
Hey everybody, thanks for the great suggestions during the last hour of the show. Sorry I couldn't fit them all in. Have a great week, and see you next Monday!
Johnny Cash singing "Sunday Morning Coming Down" is one, but Jonesey & X. Ray own the WFMU rights & privileges to it. Tomorrow marks Johnny's 14 years away.
oh poop, Ken Stringfellow sang "down like me" yesterday at bushwick's Cape House. a beautiful song, off his TOUCHED cd, which came out (ahem) on 9/11/20011.
thank YOU, Joe, for a great show!
and thanks so much for Tracy Nelson -- have not heard this in ages!
(have the LP but no turntable hooked up :( )
and DAMN her voice just KILLS!!!!!
