Scraps:

Hey, Jane Scarpantoni, the indie cello player for the eighties and nineties (and probably the oughts and teens, too)!
  12:25am

i loved tiny lights in the early eighties

I have all four of their first albums. Don’t know if they put out any more, but I liked them

greetings rich and carcassoids
...just here for a short time i think

since it's singles week a short time is all you need coel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am
coelacanth:

i'd like to see Jane Scarpantoni or Hope Sandoval, but now's not the time for concerts for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am
coelacanth:

i used to see tiny lights a lot. i hung at the house of one of the members; in fact lived in my car in the disused filler station next door, so i bathed and cooked there.
they stole my toy tambourine, and painted a smiley face on it!

wait.... what about "crumb, spiegelman, clowes"?

Oh! Ok. I wasn't sure if that comment was related to the week of upcoming events, and something with those three is something I'd want to go to.

Thank you Betty & Debbie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am
coelacanth:

Scraps, NO! and i saw them perform with it a few times after that...but i might've decided they were putting it to better use than i was. i can give myself credit for influencing the drummer's sound. (Andy Demos, not the guy wikipedia calls the drummer, who was not) i used it on my drum kit, and that's how they used it. he didn't do that before he saw me do it.

Switchblade Batman:

where do I know Fluffy from? Or the singer. It's so familiar. Was it in a movie or something?
Avatar 12:57am

Well, at least you get to say that.

Love my tambourines, even though I can’t play them very well with my left hand

Switchblade Batman, I know Fluffy from Ween.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am

yes Scraps i'm a big fan of tambourines too, and it's nice to have a variety.
Avatar 1:00am

Different Fluffy, though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am
Switchblade Batman:

Yeah, not that @scraps. It's the "Heeeerrreeee fluffy. WHere are yoooouu" parts that sounds like something I heard before. Thanks though.

Oh man love love love love Telephone Line
Avatar 1:14am
slugluv1313:

@ coelacanthø -- oh FLUFFY! i think i first heard that on Irwin's "Atrocious Music" show, back in the 1980s -- what i found astounding is that her "singing" is even worse than mine!
Avatar 1:15am
slugluv1313:

"Telephone Line" -- i think my 45 is on green vinyl?
Avatar 1:19am
Scraps:

Mine too! One of the ELO singles was on purple vinyl, too
  1:20am
Tamar:

Yep, mine is green vinyl too.
Avatar 1:20am
Scraps:

“Turn to Stone”, maybe?
Avatar 1:23am
Scraps:

Apparently the purple one was “Sweet Talking Woman”
Avatar 1:27am
Scraps:

Didn’t know ROIR issued 45s!
  1:33am
Tamar:

Scraps, it seems fitting to play a ROIR 45 since Daniel Blumin played cassettes for Single Going Steady week.
Avatar 1:45am
slugluv1313:

@ Tamar and Scraps -- way cool! and here i was wondering if my senile ol' brain was imagining the green vinyl :)
did not know about the PURPLE vinyl though! (don't have that 45)
and yow! this version of "In A Gadda Da Vida" is positively wonderfully DEMENTED! in that way that only Boney M can do :)
Avatar 1:46am
Scraps:

I was fascinated, so I did quick & dirty research. Apparently they did two 45s, both a little bit after the original 45s — the Bush Tetras “Too Many Creeps” b/w “You Can’t Be Funky”, and (of course) Bad Brains “Pay to Cum”.

WFMU — learn something every day!
Avatar 1:48am
Scraps:

ROIR, that is.
Avatar 1:48am
slugluv1313:

oh my -- is Le Chien Extraordinaire looking for FLUFFY too??!!
Avatar 1:49am
slugluv1313:

@ Scraps -- i gotta check, but i think i have that Bush Tetras 45 too! (on ROIR)
Avatar 2:01am
Scraps:

Also, my inner copyeditor notes that in the original release, both on 1981 (or 82) British label Fetish, and 1983 ROIR full-length cassette =Wild Things=, the title is styled “Can’t Be Funky”, but on the 2011 ROIR 7”, it’s now styled “You Can’t Be Funky”
Avatar 2:07am
Scraps:

Well, “Can’t Be Funky” was not originally a b-side to “Too Many Creeps”; in 1981 it was an a-side, with an instrumental of Can’t Be Funky on the b-side

Avatar 2:09am
Von the Trucker:

Not sure if it talks. It just beeps a lot.
Avatar 2:10am
Scraps:

I’m not sure, but I think if it beeps a lot, it means it’s hungry
  2:10am
rich:

beeping is communication
Avatar 2:14am
Von the Trucker:

Cant be hungry. I put it in front of its dog dish, but, it refuses to eat.
Avatar 2:15am
Von the Trucker:

;)
Avatar 2:15am

I’m going to lie down for the last 45 minutes. Awesome show. Cheers!
