But it's good you accomplished it in some form, because, as a friend of mine reminds us, the meteor could've come.

Dan, BB King has jams, in all eras.
  10:51pm
little danny:

"Shop Talk" was great and totally new to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
coelacanth∅:

shop talk has an unusual sound; an unusual sound i like
  10:54pm
little danny:

I dunno. Maybe I lived in bad-blues Austin too long but so many BB sides sounded warmed over to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Uncle Michael:

One final comment: Little Feat had a track called "Skin It Back" as well. Lowell George described it as being about "not being baptized in the Jewish manner."
Avatar 10:55pm
Kris Holmes:

youch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
coelacanth∅:

thanks Michael! happy nightmares!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm

Meaning the song is about temporary foreskin displacement for maximum pleasure.
Avatar 10:57pm

uh...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm

haha i'm confused!
Avatar 10:57pm

g'night, UM...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
coelacanth∅:

ha yeah i did too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
Uncle Michael:

Night...sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
coelacanth∅:

Danny, i'm not a fan of BB's music, in general. it's not blue, and it sounds generic. (no offense. rest in peace)
...but i'd like to hear something to validate me saying "in general"; because i was just being polite there!
- i was out of the room for "so excited". i'll have to back up and give it a listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
coelacanth∅:

gnight UM
Avatar 11:07pm
Kris Holmes:

i have a stack of killer BB King 45s that will change your mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm open.
...i did just back up and listened to a verse and part of the git solo and yeah pretty hot. (i gotta check it out on something besides ancient 13"laptop speakers)
  11:11pm
little danny:

Don't get me wrong, I probably have at least 5 45s by BB
  11:13pm
little danny:

Somehow I'd never noticed the "Peter Gunn" guitar line in this
Avatar 11:13pm
Kris Holmes:

the thing about BB is you have to pretty much ignore from the late 70s on. The stuff before that is high percentage badass & it's not his fault if it sounds corny today, pretty much everyone after bit his style. He was an originator for a lot of it, the source.
Avatar 11:15pm
still b/p:

So I'm looking briefly at a recommendation for a book that seems interesting, and a moment ago I do a search for it on a site that checks many collections, and the title search brings an entry for the book....and one entry for an Etta James song with the same title. Woulda been great if that happened just a little earlier while she was playing here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
coelacanth∅:

i'm just personally much more (again, polite understatement!) of a fan of blue blues, and all the footage i've ever seen of him performing he's got a giant shit-eatin' grin on. just never moves me. i want the blues to make me sad. i want the blues to be the blues.
Avatar 11:21pm
geezerette:

Coel, Rev. Gary Davis..."Death Don't Have No Mercy". (shudder)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
coelacanth∅:

well, bring 'em out, Kris!
Avatar 11:24pm
Kris Holmes:

buried in a box in the other room :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
coelacanth∅:

this is as i thought of Muddy Waters for a long time too, because my older brother had some post-"blues revival" records. then one day i wanted to hear the earliest "trouble no more" (which i knew via Allman Brothers Band) and found one by Muddy from '55 and from there of course sought out all that early incredible Muddy Waters stuff.
turned me 'round.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
coelacanth∅:

g, i'll check that out. i need a good shudder!
(actually i think i've heard that and didn't take note of the title)
Avatar 11:29pm
Kris Holmes:

i have located the "box of BB" & have it at my feet
Avatar 11:30pm
geezerette:

Yay!
Avatar 11:30pm
Kris Holmes:

do you want ballads or jumpers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
coelacanth∅:

haha nice! but you need not change your plan now, on my behalf anyway. i'll be around.
Avatar 11:32pm
geezerette:

coel, it's on youtube. get ready, your molecules will be rearranged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm

Avatar 11:50pm
Kris Holmes:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
