Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

...regarding weird sounding remasters, i generally try to get the least "remastered" that i can get, when it comes to pre-cd music.
- "let it be...naked" is a weird exception, since it's "stripped down" but also remastered. ...i far and away prefer it; but i think "i've got a feeling" is one of the tracks that's not affected by the stripped-down-ness.

UM, most people i've mentioned that release to had never heard of it (somehow) but yeah i could see that. if they knew more of the history of how that album ended up having all that slop poured over it they might be more open to the naked version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Uncle Michael:

The Spector work on LIB is complicated...he poured slop on it...but he picked MUCH better takes than Glyn Johns had chosen for the unreleased "Get Back" album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm

really? where might i hear the original choices? did i know they were out there??

the band sloan in their alteregos Feltworth made the joke that the blues is just like playing Happy Birthday all the time with different lyrics. I feel that way about calypso at times. I love the lyrics it seems like it's the same tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll have to seek out those boots. i don't doubt you,UM, but i didn't know they were around.
i just hear "long and winding road" and "let it be" - 2 songs i could almost not stand to hear, despite acknowledging them being good songs - and not only sans slop but also, at least in the case of winding road, a much better vocal take; and i can listen to the whole album through now. (except i usually skip "get back")

...was it spector's choice to leave "don't let me down" off? (the naked version being a better take than the "hey jude" version)
