There is already Sleipnir (Nordic) and Rhiannon (Welsh) of the horse deities I can think of.... Someone should should document the horse deities of the horse deities of the various steppe nomad tribes, unfortunately, not much survives once monotheism took over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
Sam Segal:

Howdy, @NGH. Lotta horsely qualities worth deifying, that's for damn sure. Monotheism was a misstep!

I hate the power structure of monotheism, but many 'pagan' religions weren't all too altruistic either (neo-paganism doesn't count).
Avatar 9:42pm
northguineahills:

Most smaller pagan religion traditions only survive from the critiques of their monotheistic conquerors, for if they had a written tradition at all, it was wiped out (see Livonia, Lithuania). The only reason we have the Nordic saga/pantheon preserved is b/c of Iceland.

In Iceland, my (now) wife asked what should we do on our next to last day, go see geysers, or take the folklore tour. I decided the folklore/history tour, she agreed, and we didn't regret it (there were only two other people on the tour).

Man, I have got to get to Iceland. Everyone I know who has traveled there has had a great a experience.

Yes, I too have heard nothing but good about Iceland. Cycling is amazing there and trippy apparently since the landscape plays tricks with your mind because of scale.

That's some jive-talk right there.

I gotta wash the jive out of my mouth. Welcome, @IFNY!

Yes, big RIP to Mitar Subotic. Pleased this new compilation of Rex Illusivi could turn me onto his work. Glad to have you, @slawooy.

Suba has collaborated twice w/Milan Mladenovic, the frontmen of EKV. First time in 1982 - prob the best album ever recorded in Yugoslavia ‘Katarina II’ and then in mid 90’s they also did hypnotic album called ‘Angel’s dust’. EKV was founded after he left for Brazil. These albums and bands were very influential through some rough times in Ex-Yu

That was one of my favorite Breeder's unsung songs, thanks Sam!

I'm off to a show b/c I didn't do shit for my bday as I was totally fatigued at my age (wow, I'm in my 40s!). Kawaii desu!

Tim Gane is who told me to look for Neu!. (I was a wee lad at the time).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
Sam Segal:

Wow, I will have to hear the full story of that encounter sometime, @NGH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

I gotta seek out this "Katarina II" record, @slawooy. Thanks for the tip.

@Sam: I was 20, and got to Atlanta early for a Stereolab show. The tour bus pulled up, and they wanted to get coffee. My friend and I were too starstruck to make meaningful conversation w/ Laetitia, Mary, or Morghane, but finally my friend finally blurted out, what's the first krautrock album we should find, and tim answered, "Neu!" He said other bands that I tatooed into my memory, but that stood in my head (I read Thurston recommending them as well), and all of sudden, I could talk like a normal person.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Sam Segal:

Ah, man, that is such a wonderful memory. Far better than when I found out about Neu. Can't even remember when I found about them, because it was probably in some surface-level intro to Krautrock article on Pitchfork or something.

I can’t imagine you’d get into truly dreadful quality concerns unless you were coming from long- maintained audiophile perspectives/standards to begin with. But I don’t know what the receiver handling of the signal will do, added- noise-wise, or making thin capabilities of playback device more noticeable. Can you get your hands on anybody else’s li’l portable player for a test listen of your own discs in your own system?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Sam Segal:

Oh, now that's a smart idea, @SBP. My ears are not refined by any means, so I doubt I will pick up on anything, unless it's super noticeable. My receiver is pretty decent though, so maybe a test is in order.

still b/p:

Check real favorites and familiars if you can do the test. “I’ve heard this often, and at decent or best quality, and THIS ain’t what it oughta sound like.” Or, “Yeah, that’s it, it’s there. This’ll do.”
