Hey Dan. How was your weekend?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm
Little Danny:

Not bad tho not special
Avatar 10:04pm
Kris Holmes:

well that's ok then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Little Danny:

Just spent the last few hours organizing my R&B and popcorn 45s by label as well as by style. My life is going exactly the way I'd planned!

Anyway, thought of you as I asked myself out loud if Al Pinckney's "Coasting" was a popcorn/R&B 45 or a soul 45. Still haven't landed on where it goes. Same for dozens of other discs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Little Danny:

Diggin' the Nashboro sides!
Avatar 10:09pm
Kris Holmes:

as you know, i've barely graduated out of generic alphabetising here, it's tricky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
Little Danny:

"It's tricky": man is that ever the truth
Avatar 10:11pm
Kris Holmes:

I pretty much have a box ready for the hell of interfiling, worst job ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Little Danny:

Oddly I have 45s by all of these artists but none of these specific tracks. Great stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Little Danny:

Interfiling and record collector breakdowns

Kris Holmes:

dude, there are a bazillion 45s on Nashboro & i think each of these groups have like 100 each & then there are like 350 Consolers 45s lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Little Danny:

I know! Nashboro is the gospel equivalent of Atlantic/Atco

The Swanee Quintet could get very, very raw
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
JtotheK:

your mention of 45 organizing reminds me ... i haven't done any 45 organizing at all in a while. let alone by style/label. i do ok keeping LPs organized, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Little Danny:

Jesus, Kris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm

@Jason: 45s get very tricky very fast I just found out

Yeah, so there was a knife, a "shove those music instruments (accordions & electric guitars) up your a**" & a "shut the f*** up". Gotta love the respect for authority in inner city welfare assistance schools
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Little Danny:

Man that would scare the shit outta me. Glad you weren't physically hurt
Avatar 10:24pm

they're little, like funny angry midgets
Avatar 10:26pm

any 45s you can't categorise, put them in playout boxes

All fun and games until someone gets an accordion suppository.

The Stapes' Riverside recordings are wildly underappreciated

to the accordion suppository & riverside staples under appreciation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm

"Mr. Moto" gets cited as the first-ever surf record. Whatta classic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm

This is my kind of set
Avatar 10:40pm
Kris Holmes:

I believe this copy is actually ex-Little Danny, I'm still in the box I put that stuff in.

Austin: boomtown for more than thirty years.

Back to child-HOODS: Older kid, same attitude, same target. On a backpack trip, sharing by chance a shelter area with troubled and school-exile teens and their very young adult mentors, I was the one in our group requesting that a teen stop hacking at trees in the immediate area. Later overheard him in his tent speaking of me to his mentor, “I should have shoved that machete up his ass.” Interesting arrangement, too — male sharing small tent with “adult” female just about 4 or 5 years older than him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Little Danny:

You're welcome! Truthfully I enjoy familiar music waaaay more when someone else plays it
Avatar 10:55pm
Kris Holmes:

Dan have you had any contact with Numero over their upcoming lounge music extravaganza/expose? Looks interesting

Finally got the lappy fired up. Regarding Lightnin Slim, if you're asking if you're crazy, you're crazy! (I've inquired, myself).

Sometimes, even with something entirely new to me, the reverb amount seems juuuust right.

Otis just screamed! He sounded like a '50s jungle sound effect!

Made a "Sound of Music" reference to my wife, as I almost hit a female deer on my way home from work. She's never seen it before. It must not be big in Mexico.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Little Danny:

As in "Doe a deer a female deer"?
Avatar 11:16pm

WTF? How has anyone not seen that?

A lifetime in this American culture has given me unavoidable and inevitable familiarity with the music, outline, many details and images and widely arrayed references... but I have never seen the whole film.
Avatar 11:22pm
northguineahills:

I had to explain the whole movie so she would get the reference (thankfully, she understood Suisse's neutrality as part of the plot). I'm making her watch it this weekend.

(I first saw the film when I was four, I've probably seen it a dozen times, but not once since I was 17.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Little Danny:

@NGH: haha, yes! A Simpsons reference for everything in life please!
Avatar 11:23pm

yeah i have not seen iit in probably 30 years but i thought it was a right of passage like wizard of oz
Avatar 11:23pm

Avatar 11:24pm

Exactly Kris!
Avatar 11:26pm

@LD: Usually I'd defer to Amanda Nazzario, but anything past, present, or future that can and will be references, has already happened in the Simpsons.

Not sure why the folks didn’t haul the brood for a viewing, as they did for other flicks of the period — Mary Poppins, Born Free, 101 Dalmatians, The Russians Are Coming....
