Mark Williams:

heya Tony and all. Loved that Suso Saiz piece.
Avatar 12:40pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark! That Suso Saiz piece *is* quite beautiful -- was recorded live in concert, too.
Avatar 12:42pm
Tony Coulter:

Suso Saiz recorded an album together with Charles Hayward (of This Heat, et al) -- would be very curious to hear that one.
Avatar 12:44pm

What Mark said....
  12:44pm
Mark Williams:

oh he did? That I need to hear.
Avatar 12:44pm
Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, NGH!
Avatar 12:47pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mark: oops! My mistake. The album I'm thinking about was recorded by Hayward and Gigi Masin, not Suso Saiz. As you were....
  12:47pm
Mark Williams:

actually Tony, are you getting Saiz mixed up with Gigi Masin, because that's what my googling is finding at the moment.

Speaking of quite beautiful records, I received the latest from invisible birds yesterday, this: https://ingentingkollektiva.bandcamp.com/album/the-trail-loops-back

Awaiting the new one from Matthew Swiezynski, too: https://ingentingkollektiva.bandcamp.com/album/the-one-who-modifies-time-and-light
  12:51pm
Mark Williams:

Hayward's been very active of late, btw, and not just playing with the reconstituted Not This Heat. He's issued some interesting 45s, though he's not singing on him, which I admit I miss. I love his voice and lyrics.
Avatar 12:58pm
Tony Coulter:

By the way, won't be doing a basement records set today -- didn't have time to go digging down there. Sorry! (Or maybe you're relieved.)

Hiya, Yvang! Yep, no basement set today -- will make sure to do one in two weeks, though (the show after next week's Tape Hiss).
Avatar 1:10pm

Tony's Spanish pronunciation makes me sound like Spanish is my first language, and as constantly reminded (by a certain spouse of mine), I have a gringo accent. However, I appreciate whenever anyone gives foreign words a go, rather then not attempting.
Avatar 1:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Yeah, given that I grew up right next to a Dominican neighborhood, in NYC, you'd think my Spanish pronunciation would be better. Oh well....
Avatar 1:15pm
Tony Coulter:

Not only that, I grew up often eating Dominican food: tostones, arroz con gandules, etc. Miss that stuff -- it's hard to find out here in Portland.
Avatar 1:17pm
northguineahills:

A new Dominican place opened up in my hood two months ago. I was (and am) ecstatic!
Avatar 1:19pm
northguineahills:

There are decent Mexican places here (as opposed to Jacksonville), but I still prefer to cook mi comida mexi.
Avatar 1:19pm
Tony Coulter:

I think there's maybe one Dominican restaurant on the entire west coast.
Avatar 1:20pm
Tony Coulter:

Aha! Here's a Spanish woman massacring English -- now I feel better.
Avatar 1:22pm
northguineahills:

Plenty of Cuban restaurants here, obviously, but I still prefer that place that used to be on Cornelia St in the West Village. I think it closed around the time I left :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm

I feel for you West Coasters. My sister in Seattle tells me that plantains and ingredients for sofrito are especially hard to find out there.

The vocalist of Theatre of Sheep (on now) runs an antique store here in Portland these days. Theatre of Sheep was very popular in Portland in the '80s (long before I moved out here, of course).

Avatar 2:00pm

White Fence, that is.
  2:01pm
Dean:

Is she doing both voices? Seems to me Peter Gabriel followed suit in the late '70s, dubbing a treated voice over his usual one. Can't remember the tune. "Me and My Teddy Bear"? "Here Comes the Flood"?
Avatar 2:02pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Nope, not doing both voices -- just meant there's quite a contrast between her vocals with Slapp Happy and her singing on the Henry Cow records.
Avatar 2:04pm
Nick S.:

Soft Machine backing up Syd with Gilmour! Isn't that amazing?
Avatar 2:06pm

Yep, it is!

One of the best bunch of songs ever. Love the production so much. Wyatt's drums are so incredibly powerful sounding.
