Hey, Sam, and fellow horsin'-arounders. Happy Anthony Braxton's birthday!

hey Jeff!
yes HP Braxton -and many more
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
Sam Segal:

Hey, @Jeff! Well now I feel bad. I had a Braxton tune scheduled for this show and then I had to bump it for something else. Might have to try a reckless unbumping in honor of the maestro.

Melvin makes me want to join satan's army!

Jeff g. via app:

A "reckless unbumping" sounds like a fun thing to do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm

(and of course reckless bumping is time-honored pleasurable activity)

Did someone summon MEEEEE? Oh wait, you said Ike *Yard*. Never mind.

i've become addicted to very expensive pickles.
Avatar 10:46pm
iɛɛk:

We have cashews at my office, which is good... but most of the time they're stale, which is bad. And occasionally they taste a little bit minty, which is horrible. That is not a good flavor combination.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Sam Segal:

How the hell is the mint getting in there?
  10:53pm
still b/p:

Mintervention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm

...(i had to go look) brooklyn brine co. "whiskey pickles" - fashionably overpriced but the most perfect pickles i've ever had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
coelacanth∅:

...i've heard sometimes pee can taste minty
Avatar 10:58pm
ノズ乇:

@coel, that's the most disturbing comment I've seen on a WFMU playlist since at least 10 a.m. Fortunately the cashews are always bone-dry and crunchy, as they should be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Sam Segal:

I gotta try those, @Coel. I am a total pickle head!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
coelacanth∅:

Ike i'll have to go look for that 10am comment!

Sam, they're spicy (and, i guess, taste a little like whiskey?)
Avatar 11:11pm
northguineahills:

Got here 10 mins ago. Eating pickled habaneros, on hard goat cheese wrapped in basil from my garden on crackers. Best goddamned basil I've had in my life. Pampering my garden (and the antediluvian amounts of rain we've had the last two months) has really paid off!
Avatar 11:13pm
ɛɨk:

TBH I'm not sure if that was 10 a.m. today, yesterday, or Tuesday. Maybe it was actually something sexist that Bill Kelly said out loud.

Pickled habaneros?!? Damn, you're hardcore @NGH! Cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Sam Segal:

Good god that sounds tasty, @NGH.
Avatar 11:14pm
northguineahills:

Then downed by a spicy pickle back (where the pickled habaneros came from, for the pickle juice part).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
coelacanth∅:

Kelly said something sexist?!
Avatar 11:19pm

I've nearly denuded my basil plants the last two nights. I need to lay off.
Avatar 11:21pm

huh, my late night snacks and beverage was a non-sequitur, but appears to fit w/ the the comments page anyways...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
coelacanth∅:

ngh that sounds delicious
...i just put some basail seeds in today, in pots, where stems of something else were sticking out of the soil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
coelacanth∅:

(basail?)
Avatar 11:22pm

@coel: Mine were seeded in mid-Feb, and are already 1m tall. Trying to figure out how to wrangle my butternut squash w/ a trellis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
coelacanth∅:

what the tops were eaten off of, likely by chipmunks, i'm not sure, but maybe morning glory &/or moonflower. i hope those rodents had a good time!
Avatar 11:25pm
northguineahills:

My cucumbers leafs were eaten by birds or squirrels, not sure if they're coming back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
coelacanth∅:

how does cilantro grow in florida? i've always had to grow it in partial shade to slow the bolting. i imagine that's even more of a problem there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
coelacanth∅:

do the cukes still have flowers? (and at least a few leaves?)
Avatar 11:29pm
northguineahills:

I have my cilantro growing in the shade (under a bunch of trees and flowers). It's growing slowly (compared to everything else), but surely.

Cukes do have flowers. One thing I learned recently is that sweet potatoes flower a fruit called potato berries that are toxic. They look like large cherry tomatoes. You need to pick them off (or better yet the flowers), so the flavor of the sweet potatoes is stronger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
coelacanth∅:

you mean as seedlings? if so they may be done, but it's not too late for a second try.

i've noticed that the critters really go for the young poppy plants, before they flower. 'wonder what that's about?!
Avatar 11:31pm
northguineahills:

Yeah, first cuke seedlings got waterlogged. Second seedlings planted 3 weeks ago got nibbled at. Will see if they survive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah i think sweets are in the morning glory family.... not nearly as toxic as most parts of a potato plant though. (nightshade family)
Avatar 11:32pm
northguineahills:

(planted from a seed).

The fuzzy-wuzzy tomatoes are just about ready to be picked, and already picked the julianas. Got quite a few Basrawi tomatoes, but nematodes killed the plant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
coelacanth∅:

those sound exotic! i usually just pick any wine-colored heirloom and i'm happy. i give away most of my tomatoes, since i'm allergic to'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
coelacanth∅:

- and, i've never had a basil plant reach 2' tall. -grown maybe 8 different kinds through the years. do yours get that tall because of location, or is this an unusual variety?
Avatar 11:46pm
northguineahills:

@coel: Yeah, mine in NYC, never got beyond 2', either. I was told to expect min to be a bush 5'x5' by July.

The fuzzy wuzzys are yellow w/ black triangle slivers on the outside and fuzzy. Basarawis are purplish. Julianas are like elongated cherry tomatoes that taste like beefsteak tomatoes (oddly enough).
Avatar 11:47pm

Ok, getting ready for bed, thanks Sam and company, ohhhh, a Cage piece!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm

Cheers, @Coel! Thanks for hanging out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm

i once planted something like those yellow & black ones. didn't even germinate. i had no good results with a particular organic/heirloom seed company one year. planted thousands of poppies. 6 came up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm

really Stellar program tonight Sam - Cheers to you!
