Speaking of The Coup, saw Sorry to Bother You over the weekend. Recommend.

Hi, Sam and Sam-ites.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
Jeff Golick:

Definitely Boots directed...possibly also wrote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
Sam Segal:

I need to see it. Reading about Sorry to Bother You reminded me how much I loved The Coup as a teenager.

Howdy, @NGH and @Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
Jeff Golick:

Don't read too much about it ahead of time, is my only advice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm
chresti:

I read about Boots Riley after listening to the Coup showcase the other day

Heya, Sam buddy.
  10:15pm
david:

why are the comments enabled only sometimes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Sam Segal:

Hey, @David...that's strange....I'm not changing anything. Perhaps, there is some sort of bug in the Kenzo system?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Sam Segal:

Carmichael, dear friend, welcome back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Sam Segal:

@David: Are you on your phone or web browser?
  10:18pm
david:

I'm on my phone, but last night the comments weren't enabled in this stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Sam Segal:

Was it a live show, or was it just playing the GTDR Stream?
  10:22pm
david:

oh i dont know that. they are available only when live?
anyway, the music you are playing now is kind of chill. I'm enjoying it so far
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks, David! Yes, I believe they are only available during live programs on the Drummer Stream.
  10:28pm
Carmichael:

A few DJs don’t enable comments.
  10:29pm
Carmichael:

And when the stream is just playing by itself, there are no playlists or comments ability.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Sam Segal:

Correction: Nyege Nyege Tapes is based in Uganda not Ghana.

I found that FSA CD at a great, unpretentious used record store in Minneapolis not long ago for $2.95.
Avatar 11:44pm
northguineahills:

I've heard of 2018, I've weird dark things about it.
Avatar 11:45pm
northguineahills:

(Let's just say I have the full FSA catalogue... (some doubled on vinyl).
Avatar 11:46pm
northguineahills:

(checks my database), yes, I have this Cage (only as cd)!
  11:47pm
rw:

Hello! Oddly, this may be the first John Cage piece I've heard that I don't really get.
  11:49pm
rw:

I do like the prepared piano parts. The rest sounds like Stockhausen or something.
Avatar 11:50pm
northguineahills:

It's a relative early Cage piece, early 50s, before he full zen chance...
Avatar 11:51pm
northguineahills:

before he went fill zen i-ching chance...

(12 hours of work makes not english...)
Avatar 11:52pm
northguineahills:

full zen i-ching chance... (i give up)
  11:53pm
rw:

Ha! ngh, I understood. Also understand not English from working 12 hours. And I figured it was an earlier work. It's cool to hear. It's nice to hear some of the roots.
Avatar 11:54pm
northguineahills:

Thanks Sam, getting ready for be, let you play me out to slumberland....

salud, rw!
Avatar 11:55pm
northguineahills:

err..., bed (maybe I should be too).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
Sam Segal:

@NGH and @RW, while we still have a few minutes left, recommend one or two essential Cage pieces for me to check out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Sam Segal:

Ah, or perhaps another time, @ngh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Sam Segal:

Ah, or perhaps another time, @ngh.
  11:56pm
rw:

Night ngh! Sam, I don't know. I guess the prepared piano works. Cage had a thing against recorded music so there aren't a ton of recordings.
Avatar 11:56pm
northguineahills:

@Sam: Any of the "Variations" recordings and anything w/ David Tudor realizing Cage's pieces.... Good place to start
  11:57pm
rw:

I guess it shouldn't feel like vegetables. Should feel more like breathing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
Sam Segal:

Well, I do enjoy vegetables!
Avatar 12:00am
northguineahills:

Also, John Cage did water music on the Ed Sullivan Show, there's a vid on youtube
  12:01am
rw:

I think the first Cage thing I heard was several people tuning in to different stations on a bunch of radios. And vegetables are good! Thanks Sam! I'll be back. Maybe not next week but back. Take care and have a good week!
