Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from July 20, 2018 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I went to Baltimore for work, but brought the family. They had fun, took train to DC, played around. I had one free afternoon, so while the wife slept I took the kids "dragon-boating" in the Inner Harbor during the half hour when, suddenly, a squall hit. We were soaked. It was fun.

still no power. There's no reason to think the show will resume anytime soon. If it can resume before 3 p.m. eastern time, it will. As a side note, Matt, I was at that show in 1979. While your dad was finishing up, I went up to the bowling alley to buy cigarettes, and Talking Heads were up there bowling during your dad's set.

NGH, we're nearby, but fortunately, not near enough to be directly affected. Some day yesterday, with sirens and helicopters non-stop from 6:45 AM to well into the night, with both still intermittent at 1 in the morning.

I was at that Devo show too, it kind of scared the hell out of me. But that's another story. Dean, I never once heard the sound of bowling during a show at that venue. It was an old dance Orchestra place that my parents went to in their youth and probably my grandparents before them.
  12:59pm
Matt in Nebraska:

I was pretty young at the time (9 or 10) but as I recall, yes... there was a bowling alley upstairs.

Dean:

@Brian in UK: I'm more like the mom on the sofa. There was a dad with his two kids in the lane next to ours acting like a drill sergeant. He made his kids to push-ups after the game.

I remember hearing Mingus Big Band at Fez under Time Cafe in NYC. You could hear the subways rumbling below.
