"The Beat Goes On" by "Vince Guaraldi"
there is a song in my head and i know i love the whole thing and i'm not sure how to locate the origianl track. the three words from the song are in a crooning sort-of way, smooth homage to "ooooohh, sweet lucy" .. that is all i can remember.. anyone out there know this one? .. i know you do...
This Nathan Bowles sounds a bit like Elfin Saddle. I think I like maybe 1 Elfin Saddle song, the one about charging forward or something. They are pretty obscure, not trying to show off, heard of them on Pandora. WFMU is WAY better than Pandora!
that's not it pantz, i sifted through some suggestions YT had to offer. my musical pal from upstate says it's michael hurley from, of all groups, holy modal rounders, which i should have known, seeing as it's embedded in my brain.. thanks , though
Every other day, every other day
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
That's when I listen to Joe, and he is sublime, all of the time, woo!
@βrian: Ha! That sounds like NYC. I actually ended up spending more time outside this weekend than expected because whenever it was nice, I just took advantage of it. My walking/step-count this weekend was nuts!
I got scared off from seeing Margo last night by the weather...didn't want to schlep all the way up there and have it thunderstormed out. Ah well, glad it was a good show for those who went.
Was just about to check the playlist for the song at the the end of your set when you jumped in to say it was Gene Clark! What a lovely tune. Must get my own copy of this. Joe, as usual you're providing the perfect soundtrack to my Monday morning.
Stashu played this on May 22, 2017 and she said on the comment board "I do love all my records especially with Surface Noise which happens to be the name of Joe McGasko's show!"
I am trying to force myself to listen to Polka on the local AM country radio station in the car. According to another listener, her father from Poland loves it because it is pop music from the 20's and reminds him of his youth. I like 20's music from Boardwalk Empire, so I am trying to stretch my musical Overton Window to accept it.
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind."
... doesn't seem to leave a lot of room for anybody or anything else.
I kinda wish there was a little wiggle room to love a nice juicy burger and fries.
but alas.
(i went a little overboard last marathon, and combined my wife's contribution to mine (she's rarely on the comments board) and got the motherlode of swag!)!!!
@Joe 10:41 - yep we went to the Breeders/Speedy Ortiz show in Prospect Park. It was fantastic - such great songs, energy and loads of love from the crowd.
I just watched a dog, who was accompanying a runner, jump in the fountain. He dropped down to keep his body submerged and didn't want to come out. "Oh cool, cool water!"

@Johnzzz: from Dublin, originally Radiators from Space, featured Philip Chevron, later of the Pogues
I can't imagine that "Hooked on a Feeling" elicited all the groans you were imagining – it's a perfectly fine song. A classic, even with its ooga-chakas and all.
Bot boy howdy, you should have heard the reactions just the other day to my perfectly boffo related idea! Picture this: a musical theatre version of Hamlet, featuring tunes everybody knows with the lyrics just a little bit rewritten!
Early on, we'd have the song just under discussion, but improved to:
"Hooked on Ophelia!"
Later on, Our pal Hamlet would feature this improved version of The 59th Street Bridge Song:
@Joe: I'm terribly afraid that the name of that group is indeed Blue Swede, as in someone from Sweden - the band featured vocalist Björn Nils Olof Skifs, who sure 'nuff sounds like he comes from there. Besides, the fuzzy-finished leather would be spelled "suede".
@Jeff: Thanks for the info, Jeff, I didn't realize they had an actual Swede in the group! Nice musical idea, btw. @Cheri: Coming soon! @Rey: Ooh, I never really thought of that as racist, just silly. I'll have to think about that.
Anyone ever see the movie "Blues in the Night" came from? Pretty great screwball comedy starring, of all people, Elia Kazan. Matt Groening's a huge fan.
there are two shows now on fmu that i always have to hear: Surface Noise and Shrunken Planet..... frames out ANY weekend quite well.. guess i'll be clicky-starring this episode... yeah, i do too, melinda i had a box set od her stuff and lost it in a move.. guess it's back to Daedalus books for more
Just last night I was watching the first episode of Peter Gunn, which I just discovered is available on the streamy video thing.
At the very least, I wanted to see the show which had That Theme Song, but it didn't disappoint – mobsters with pug-ugly character-filled faces, men in proper suits and hats, and (as Julie London just put me in mind of) the torch singer in the smoky jazz club. Composed shots. Filmed in noir and white and more noir.
I think I'll want to immerse myself in it for a few evenings.
@JeffMoore: “Hooked on Ophelia” makes me wince and want to vomit… Which means that you could probably get tourists to flock into that theater by the bus-full hourly so hey. Great Broadway show idea!
(aside - since Dean mentions aretha not being well, i was at free central park show last night. and appearing and still alive and kicking are john sebastian, david amram, melanie, jesse colin young, maria muldauer,...and lotsa old farts in the audience)
They knew how to deliver a lyric in those days. I really cant listen to any contemporary lady jazz singing. The singing style popular today just gets in the way
@Master: No, I'll have to check it out! Thanks for listening and commenting, everybody, I had a fun time. The sky is a bit less grey and rainy. Have a great week and I'll see you next Monday with something entirely different.
