@jake, chresri, I do see the messengers in the city with the Bluetooth but those are the size of a rocks glass strapped to their shoulder bags . A tiny WFMU button on the shirt would be great to play the music.

There should be a review site for Bluetooth audio devices that lets you know what sound/noise/voice it makes if you turn it on, sync it or disconnect it. Some of the cheap ones have crazy voices on them that sound half-brain damaged.

Homeless guys in my neighborhood hang out on benches listening to anything on their smartphones and sometimes share cheap Bluetooth speaker. They are damned cheap in the discount stores nowadays. But it is definitely like the AM radio of the 21st century.

WFMU Bluetooth speaker pin would make a great premium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm

Tome, greetz!!! Dean, and they are still doing great shtuff!

Nothing quite like a handheld transistor radio secured beneath the pillow to send one to dreamland.

I had no idea BDC were still around!
  9:50pm
JakeGould:

@Dean: The problem is nowadays so many loon balls fill up AM with hate talk you will get nightmares.

Kat in Chicago in Montréal right now:

Jake, where do the homeless guys charge their phones and their speakers?
  9:59pm
JakeGould:

@Kat: Lots of places. This is not a new thing. Some know how to find lampposts that have sockets. The local subway has USB chargers. So do some buses. It’s not a luxury to have a smartphone in 2018.
  10:02pm
Kat in Chicago in Montréal right now:

The Chicago trains don’t have USB, but it’s possible to find a socket on some of them.
  10:04pm
JakeGould:

Also, it costs less than $10 to get a portable USB battery that has decent capacity. Just let that fill up and take it wherever.
  10:04pm
Kat in Chicago in Montréal right now:

I’ve only rarely seen homeless folks here with phones.

  10:07pm

Also, there are LinkNYC monoliths in NYC that are basically Wi-Fi hubs that also have USB charging ports as well. You can see all kinds of people charging near those at times.

Are those LinkNYC things new? I don’t recall those when I was there last.
  10:12pm
JakeGould:

@Kat: Oh yes, they are new. Kinda like Citibike in that they are in mainly the most populated neighborhoods. But if you find yourself sleeping on the streets of Chelsea at night near a LinkNYC—and there are lots of them—you get some great streaming speeds.
  10:14pm
Kat in Chicago in Montréal right now:
