A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

@Trouble: So in the great scheme of things, it’s hilarious that a nominated justice for the Supreme Court would go to a UB40 concert and then get into a bar fight.

JakeGould:

@Trouble: It’s pure comedy honestly: “Kavanaugh Was Questioned by Police After Bar Fight in 1985” www.nytimes.com...

Setting: “He said that the altercation happened after a UB40 concert on Sept. 25, when he and a group of people went to Demery’s and were drinking pints. At one point, they were sitting near a man who, they thought, resembled Ali Campbell, the lead singer of UB40.”

MagicMoment™: “When the man noticed Mr. Ludington, Mr. Kavanaugh and the others looking at him, he objected and told them to stop it, adding an expletive, Mr. Ludington said. Mr. Kavanaugh cursed, he said, and then ‘threw his beer at the guy.’”

YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS UP!!!
Avatar 10:13am
northguineahills:

Laetitia!
  10:13am
JakeGould:

The ting is that at that point, Brett had no reason to believe the guy wasn’t the lead singer of UB40. So in the great scheme of things, he—in his mind—attacked the lead singer of UB40 because the guy dared to say “Stop staring at me!”

Anecdote, re, Monade: saw them play in Atlanta after the release of "A Few Steps More", they were great but there were MAYBE 100 people in a hall made for 10 X that. Apparently it was an unannounced stop by a band that most people had never heard of. @Brendan: Ha! I’ve been talking casually around work and with friends about how America seems to have lost touch with the beauty of “snobs versus slobs” comedies and their message of “Slobs win!”

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The northeastern Minnesota town of Gilbert is alerting residents that birds may be a bit more “tipsy” than normal this time of year.Police say the reason behind this is the fact that certain berries in the area have fermented earlier than usual due to an early frost. That, plus the fact that many birds have yet to migrate south, means more birds are feeling the effects than in past years.

Also, younger birds’ livers cannot handle the fermented berries as well as older birds.
Police say there’s no need to call law enforcement about the birds, as they should sober up in a short period of time.

one winter (maybe early spring?) when I lived in NH, I heard what I thought was ice hitting our front window and went out to look. There was a whole flock of wasted waxwings falling out of tree branches, flying into windows, and raising a ruckus. It looked like they were going from yard to yard snarfing up fermented hawthorn berries, etc., and leaving behind some colorful streels of droppings. It was both glorious and alarming.
