Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from December 7, 2018 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I miss you more then Michael Bay missed the mark
When he made Pearl Harbor
I miss you more than that movie missed the point
And that's an awful lot girl
And now, now you've gone away
And all I'm trying to say is
Pearl Harbor sucked, and I miss you

I need u like Ben Affleck needs acting school
He was terrible in that film
I need u like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part
He's way better than Ben Affleck
And now all I can think about is your smile
and that shitty movie too
Pearl Harbor sucked and I miss you

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?
I guess Pearl Harbor sucked
Just a little bit more than I miss you

Belafonte's Carnegie Hall record is one of those de rigueur LPs, like Jennifer Warnes' Famous Blue Raincoat, for audiophiles, regardless of whether the music is to one's taste. Supposedly, on a decent system you can hear the subways running under the hall. I've never bothered to check. But I do remember hearing Mingus Big Band at Fez under Time Cafe long ago. Dean:

When we first hired our nanny/babysitter/whatever, she cared for our son and Noam's grandson. Kinda cool. Now our son, heading toward his 'teens, bumps into the nanny at Starbucks now and then.

Alongside a review in Billboard, April 26, 1975, of Don Reno et al. at NYU is a review of Manu Dibango at The Bottom Line. Opening act for Manu Dibango? Isotope with Gary Boyle. Wow.

I saw Long John Baldry wen he was touring to support It Aint Easy. I saw him at - I promise, this is true - a weekend-long fest that was raising money for charity, held in a mall parking lot that was a bike ride way from my house in Paramus NJ.

@Annie Probably Robert Altman's magnum opus along with Nashville. And Lori Singer was the daughter, not Daryl Hannah.

Saw Jon Hendricks at the National Jazz and Blues Festival Auguat '69, same weekend as Charlie Manson did his worst. He was scat singing with Yes' Jon Anderson for a couple of numbers. Strange but true. The Who topped the bill two weeks before Woodstock. They were wonderful.

Jeff Golick:

Pardon this inside baseball, but I find this fascinating: "Tinker and Evers feuded for many years. On September 14, 1905, Tinker and Evers engaged in a fistfight on the field because Evers had taken a cab to the stadium and left his teammates behind in the hotel lobby. They did not speak for years following this event. According to some tellings, Tinker and Evers did not speak to one another again following their fight for 33 years, until they were asked to participate in the radio broadcast of the 1938 World Series, between the Cubs and the New York Yankees. Neither Tinker nor Evers knew the other had been invited."
