NIN is kinda a one-trick pony maybe. Bowie is all over the map, IMHO. Kinda like the Beatles. I don't DISLIKE NIN, but I only own one NIN CD because I found it in the basement of a house I bought. As far as I know, NIN is something you appreciate more when you're an angsty, moody, angry and/or depressed teenager or maybe a young adult. That's when that really spoke to me. Their first couple of albums were huge. After that I either grew up too much or they weren't as good anymore.

1. I think we should pull out of all the wars we have going on and take about 80% of the military budget (take it away at a rate of about 10% a year for 8 years) and ramp up spending on space travel to stimulate research and mine asteroids and cool stuff like that.
2. Re-establish trade schools for plumbers, mechanics and other trades, there is a severe shortage. Retrain people who want it. All for free through the public school system. Take a % of that former military budget for that.
3. Flat income tax. The more you make, the same they take.
4. Audit the Fed and then eliminate it, put money in the hands of Congress again. Keep the prime rate low, like around 2%.
5. Give tax breaks to all small businesses with less than 500 employees, they need it.
6. Hire more librarians. Make libraries have extended hours 7 days a week.
7. Allow interstate competition for health insurance.

Seriously, I met a “homeless” guy in Union Square a month or so back that was an interesting example. I quote “homeless” because he does have a place to stay. He gets benefits, has a part-time job working at the farmer’s market and has a few other hustles as well. But without revealing his income, in my mind he was basically $500 to $600 a month away from being stable enough to grow out of the mess he’s in. So social welfare works.

And anyone saying it doesn’t? It cost thousands of dollars to get a homeless person who is ill to a hospital and cared for. The math works towards giving people better benefits. But nobody acts on that.

Oh, this guy was 67 as well. So hey… It’s all effed up.
