Hey chresti!
Hi melinda!
Sorry for the late start, I had a little transportation trouble and just RAN through the door!

Hey northguineahils!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm

Concrete work is very stressful-timing is important

This sounds like my yard before my next door neighbor moved in w/ a hound dog. Cats visit occasionally, but the birds are loud as hell. (Found a Carolina Wren nest in my back porch in my watering can. I waited until the juveniles fledged until I cleaned it out [hadn't needed to water the garden since last spring due to so much rain])
Avatar 7:19pm
northguineahills:

(apparently, it tore a hole threw the screen window [no glass])
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
chresti:

I'm sorry, what tore a hole in the screen?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm

In since the start but noodling around page proofs; hey Jesse and all! Digging the sounds of Stambul!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
melinda:

I like the sounds too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
chresti:

It's a lively place, sounds like.
Avatar 7:25pm
northguineahills:

The wren, It seemed to like the shelter of the porch and raised a nice family. I would watch it do mating dances in the morning. I'd try to get pics but turning on the light would make it hide.
Avatar 7:26pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey James, welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm
chresti:

It used the screen to build a nest?
Avatar 7:31pm
northguineahills:

It (or some other creature), bit through the screen to make a hole big enough for it and mate to enter and egress) (it was really small).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm
chresti:

At work, I used copper wire to hang a bamboo shade in front of the window. I'd watch as a bird would repeatedly try to pull/bite off the end of the wire, during nesting season.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
chresti:

I couldn't tell you the name of the bird, there are several different types that build nests around the booth. One is a type of swallow, they have real solid nests, almost like clay.
Avatar 8:03pm
northguineahills:

During my walks, I've been finding plenty of empty nests, all of the birds have fledged...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm
Webhamster Henry:

The trees, not to be confused with Träden.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
Webhamster Henry:

I'm seeing a few active nests and they are really entertaining.

Just went for a little walk on the neighborhood trail and the peepers were loud. I love how they sound like aliens have landed.

In other news, while going through stuff today I unexpectedly found three boxes of records on a bottom shelf in the far corner of my basement next to the oil tank. They'd been there for the last 16 years since I moved in! One box I thought had been lost in the move, the others I didn't know were missing. Plus a box of cassettes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
coelacanth∅:

the birds that come every spring to nest in the roof over the entrance to my apartment are very busy. other than them i haven't (and usually i don't, and i work outside) seen any birds working on nests yet. in a few weeks i will, and i'll have to construct barricades to keep the dogs away from some bushes for a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm

what a find melinda! exciting!

Hello.
Avatar 8:21pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi TDK60!
Melinda, that's like a huge free shopping trip :)
Avatar 8:25pm
TDK60:

Was just listening to an LP from '72 so 2019 -now- is good too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
melinda:

The downside is that I'm going through things to prepare for mold remediation, and I'm not sure what's safe to keep vs. get rid of, given that my basement has mold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
chresti:

I like it when I find something I forgot I had, like a pair of pants that aren't ripped
Avatar 8:27pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

@TDK60, that last track was actually recorded in 1995 in Kiev
Avatar 8:27pm
Jesse Kaminsky:

but seemingly timeless
Avatar 8:27pm
TDK60:

Melinda: hope your old LPs and tapes aren't moldy. I think tapes can be saved if too-humid (thru some baking process) but if moldy? doubt it.
Avatar 8:27pm
northguineahills:

I thought I heard Stephen O'Malley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
melinda:

But yeah, it was nice to see some records of mine that aren't easily replaced which I'd thought were gone. Most of the records were my husband's, and I don't have a working turntable on which to play them to see what I would want to keep.
Avatar 8:28pm
northguineahills:

and new!
Avatar 8:29pm
TDK60:

Jesse, well then, 1995 in Kiev it is-was! // I dig that album Sunn O))) did with Scott Walker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
melinda:

Nothing looks or smells bad, but if you've got mold-related health problems (which I might) you're supposed to be extra-cautious. So it's hard to know. The cassettes I can part with.
Avatar 8:32pm
northguineahills:

Awesome, Melinda!

(I still want all of the recs stolen from me at dj gigs and my old landlord's cleaning crew who took a box of cassettes and master tapes [I left outside my apt door while cleaning]). I'll never see those again
Avatar 8:32pm
northguineahills:

The Sunn O)))/Pansonic release is also really nice....
Avatar 8:33pm
TDK60:

..only recently found out it's pronounced Sun. I'd been calling them Sun O. My hip cred went poof, better keep a low profile in Brooklyn..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
coelacanth∅:

i didn't give Scott Walker the time of day until i heard soused. whilst not paying attention to him he was exploring
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
coelacanth∅:

they named themselves after the amplifier company, sun, whose logo is sun o)))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
coelacanth∅:

(...i mean, sunn; not sun)
Avatar 8:39pm
northguineahills:

@coel: I didn't get Scott Walker until his collab w/ Christian Fennesz around 2005. Then he got more and more atmospheric and experimental. It was then I was able to find the threads through his whole career and now I understand.
Avatar 8:39pm
TDK60:

..the other day Kurt Gottschalk did a fill-in and played a long track off "Soused" called "Bull" -devastating..
Avatar 8:40pm
northguineahills:

oh, wait, Fennesz and Walker first collabed in 2001. (and I have that beach boys cover single).
Avatar 8:43pm
northguineahills:

I got to see Sote play for my friend's label showcase around 2005. (Isolate Recs).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
coelacanth∅:

after i heard soused i backtracked and really dug the drift, and tilt, and and who shall go to the ball, and what shall go to the ball (do i have that right?!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
melinda:

@TDK outed as a square, haha

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
coelacanth∅:

so what album from 1972 did you just listen to?
(inquiring minds want to know)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm
Webhamster Henry:

I keep hoping I'll find a box with a number of LPs I used to have.
But what I'd really like is a cassette of music I made that was played on Transfigured Night on WKCR back in the 80s and never returned,
Avatar 8:57pm
TDK60:

Oh, "Jeff Beck Group" -recorded in Memphis w/Steve Cropper prod. Esp. the instrumental version of "I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You" (Simpson-Ashford-Holland tune).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
coelacanth∅:

woah. i don't know that album but it must be jammin'
Avatar 9:02pm
TDK60:

*and* I'm digging these current sounds much tonight. // Coel, it's got a strong band and guitar work, of course, yet some of the tunes aren't so melody-memorable except "I Can't.."
