Today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes is fairly obscure ... BUT ... if you're familiar with it, it should be blindingly obvious what it is. Anyone??

(Only know it because you played something by them ... and then I found that LP shortly after.)

The tracks on this tape are sort of collaged together, which makes accurate tracklisting challenging -- but I'll do my best....

Dit (on now) has a solo tape on this same Pissende Kuh Kassetten label. Probably worth hearing....
  12:38pm
Dean:

"Dit" is to my knowledge not a German word, but it is French. What's going on?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Yvang:

Dit is a verb meaning "says"
  12:41pm
Dean:

Yes, or an adjective meaning "called" or "known as," but it's French.
Avatar 12:43pm
Tony Coulter:

Yes, but Herr Dit is definitely German. I'm guessing it's dit, with a hard t, as in "dit dit dit."
Avatar 12:43pm
Tony Coulter:

But ... who knows!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:44pm

Germans are better at french (at foreign languages in general) than the opposite

I like the rhyming scheme here: A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, / B, B,B, B, B, B, B,B, B, B ,B, / etc......
  1:35pm

That's not a rhyme scheme. That's a rhyme conspiracy!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm
Rich in Washington:

You mean you found a tape and the labels fell off or something? I love/hate when that happens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Rich in Washington:

What immediately sprung to mind was John Oswald's Mystery Tape series, but I don't think that's what this is.
Avatar 2:37pm
Tony Coulter:

You can see the tape in the pic. It just sez "Joke." Probably never had a cover or labels....
Avatar 2:38pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: Yeah, I don't think it's Oswald.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
chris:

little timmy fell down the well, dammit! can't you hear that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm
Rich in Washington:

Do you remember how you got it? Not just somebody's one-off recording?
Avatar 2:41pm
Tony Coulter:

It was part of a big batch of tapes I bought -- just took a chance on it, given the other tapes. It could indeed be a one-off recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Rich in Washington:

It's actually quite interesting. Would be cool to find out who did it.
Avatar 2:42pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Chris: Ha!!
  2:42pm
Dean:

I read "Joke" as a note-to-self about the recordist's ambitions. I take it none of the other tapes in the batch were similarly labeled? Probably not from the same source?
Avatar 2:44pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Agreed about the-note-to-self idea. The other tapes were all actual "releases."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
Rich in Washington:

not so fun fact: I sent an original cassette I made in the early 90s to a tape label guy who really liked it and wanted to release it on his tape label, then didn't hear from him for a couple of years and then heard through the grapevine that he had died. I am very sure the cassette probably got thrown out because it was recorded over a tape of Tina Turner's Private Dancer (we were going to call it The Private Dancer tape).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm
Rich in Washington:

I like this tape a lot. Who's the Alan Lomax of weird cassette recordings, if not you, Tony? Maybe someone in the LAFMS/Smegma circles?
Avatar 2:52pm
Tony Coulter:

Maybe Frank Maier of Vinyl on Demand? I might just send this thing to him -- tho it's not really in his favored style.
Avatar 2:53pm
Tony Coulter:

Frank put together this site: www.tape-mag.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. That's something!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
coelacanth∅:

i came upon a box of cassettes several years ago on the stoop of a cafe/art gallery/ co-op/failure late at night so i took the whole box. it was mostly dubbed albums that i either had or didn't want and would record over them, but one tape was marked "ol' hangin' conversation". i stuck it in the 4-track and had my way with it.
anyway i don't know who the 4 (?) dumbasses are on the tape but judging by the location it was found, the location it was recorded in, and the name of someone not present but talked about, i determined the basic history of it.
that was pretty cool...and i'm happy with what i turned it into.

In the eighties a female acquaintance gave me a tape of her and some of her friends tripping out on acid for the first time. I still have it. It's pretty stupid. Like acid is wasted on backwoods hillbilly types. No profound insights were made by anyone, at least as far as the tape picked up.
