Juggalo Makeup Foils Facial Recognition Technology: see also this.

One Of The Country’s Major Suppliers Of Police Body Cameras Has Banned Facial Recognition. But That Isn’t Enough (Afrotech, June 28): "Axon may have tried to paint itself as doing some good by creating this ethics board, but the best thing the company could do is not exist. This is, after all, the developers of the Taser. Although no government agency really tracks Taser use or its impacts, a 2019 Reuters review of police records, news reports, and court documents found that at least 49 people died after being shocked by police with a Taser in 2018 alone."

Taser Chief Gets $246 Million Stock-Option Award (WSJ, May 2): "[Axon CEO Patrick] Smith’s reported compensation far surpasses that of the highest-paid CEOs last year at much larger companies and is about 20 times the median pay for an S&P 500 chief."

This Is Palantir’s Top-Secret User Manual for Cops (Vice, July 12): "The Palantir user guide shows that police can start with almost no information about a person of interest and instantly know extremely intimate details about their lives. . . . [giving] law enforcement nearly omniscient knowledge over any suspect they decide to surveil."

Thiel’s an unreliable narrator at best. I wondered the timing of his google statement coinciding with the news last week about all the California cities having access to Palantir info and the leak of the Palantir police manual. (Thiel’s a founder)

...article that included those, I mean to say. Also, shootable nets and stuff.

JakeGould:

@BsaNL: “Seems like tasers need some AI. Flat on the floor = enough.. should be easy?” Stunningly naive assessment. The reality is any weapon of any kind used against any living thing can result in worse consequences than intended. More AI? Nope. Tasers are garbage. It‘s a fantasy that is like some kind of magic bean idea.
