Weird: I'm not seeing the photo of today's cassettes, even though it was there a few hours ago. Perhaps there's a problem with the site hosting these playlist images. Or maybe it's just my computer? Is anyone else seeing the pic?
Avatar 12:01pm
Mayuko:

The station's blogfiles server is having trouble, making the images stored there unavailable at the moment. Hoping it will resolve soon.

There IS a problem with the image hosting thing.

Do an ASCII picture, Tony! We'll wait.

@Rich ASCII picture is a great idea. Maybe I'll try that if this problem won't get fixed by Saturday!

Tony Coulter:

I'm just going to keep my finger crossed and hope the picture suddenly magically appears. The funny thing is, today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes is super easy to recognize. Maybe the easiest yet.
Avatar 12:08pm
Kay:

I saw it last night...Outsideinside. But now it's not. More sadly, the playback is not working from PLS file to foobar2000.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
Rich in Washington:

It's Spinal Tap, Smell the Glove, isn't it, Tony?
  12:08pm
Dean:

The mystery LP is a clear vinyl, clear cover Unattainable Text #1, on top of which sits clear cassettes in clear cases.
Avatar 12:08pm
Kay:

May be working now.

Those of you on FB can see the picture here, tho: www.facebook.com...

Heya, Dean and Kay!!

Kay: Are you saying you see the image now, above the playlist? I still don't.
Avatar 12:12pm
Kay:

No, I don't see it. But for awhile, playback wasn't working, and the post your comment popup was blank, too. Playback and obviously comments are working for me now.
Avatar 12:12pm
Tony Coulter:

Ah, good!

I saw the album cover last night (Outsideinside by Blue Cheer) but I thought it might too early to guess fairly.

For what it's worth, last week non-Hiss graphic displays, but not the previous weeks Hiss graphic called MEDUSA.JPG.
Avatar 12:17pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Rich: Yeah, it's a great tape. Need to find more by James Hill (he has quite a few releases). www.discogs.com...
Avatar 12:18pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola, Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Rich in Washington:

Do you submit things to Discogs, Tony? I do, but usually only so I can add unlisted releases to my collection. It's laborious, often rewarded only with endless corrections by anoraks.
Avatar 12:20pm
Tony Coulter:

I used to add stuff to RYM -- quite a few things, actually -- but I eventually gave up. Just takes too much time.
Avatar 12:23pm
Tony Coulter:

Just noticed that all six James Hill tapes listed on discogs were released in 1984!
Avatar 12:24pm
Tony Coulter:

He has others, of course -- like the one on now....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Rich in Washington:

This is pretty interesting and varying in style. Fascinating.
Avatar 12:26pm
Tony Coulter:

The jazzy trumpet is definitely an unusual element for these home taper/cassette underground thingees.
Avatar 12:27pm
Tony Coulter:

Apparently, Hill liked to mail his tapes out in unusual packages, including things like shoes. (So Little Fyodor told me.)

Graphic was showing again, now it's gone. Comment popup not showing text either. It may be my flaky Internet - can't stream and browse. Love that font on James Hill. I assume that's a business card.
Avatar 12:41pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Kay: Yes, it is a business card!
Avatar 12:42pm
Tony Coulter:

By the way, that was James Hill singing on "Pussy Patrol." Here now is Mickey Stein.
Avatar 12:44pm
Tony Coulter:

The mention of spam just now (in the lyrics, I mean) reminds me of a prize-winning typo I spotted in the NY Times (online only): Instead of "King of Spain," it said "King of Spam."
Avatar 12:46pm
Tony Coulter:

I imagine it was some kind of optical scanner error....
Avatar 1:22pm
Tony Coulter:

Interestingly, discogs tells me that Dan Fioretti plays on a few releases by the fine New Jersey band Silly Pillows -- which Belinda Miller of Hova and Belinda fame was a member of. So, everything is connected in the end.

But what about the Year of Nicole?
Avatar 2:16pm
Tony Coulter:

I've got another Fioretti tape right near me. It's called "Beyond the Valley of the Year of Nicole." Whoever Nicole is, she seems to have left a big impression on Dan.

tony, hello! one of the cooler album titles i've come across in a while.
Avatar 2:22pm

@ Yvang: Ah, yes! Those Samantha Fox tributes are Alain Neffe comps. And he admitted to me that he was indeed obsessed with her for a while. Here's one of the tapes: www.discogs.com...
