Rapidly Rabid?
Avatar 9:51am
Linda Lee:

that's not the sound of flooding, though. flooding sounds like thunder!
i think we're safe.
Avatar 9:58am
Linda Lee:

we've had a few 100-year floods this past decade in our catskills valley. streets became rivers & the houses there looked like riverboats. lawns were islands. unforgettable!
Avatar 10:04am
Rock Ridge Chess Club:

@Linda Lee It's more a Misophonia thing. I couldn't remember the name, and likely won't in another ten minutes. No fear of water here. I am water monkey.

aw bummer about the flooding LL :( it can be scary. I remember when 100-year floods started happening every 5 years in my hometown. I worried that waters would not retreat.
  10:07am
hevykevy:

good morning from north carolina woods. listening to this and opening up a new square to my two piggies.
Avatar 10:09am
Linda Lee:

@cutecloud ~ yes. the water always subsides.. but it always takes too long. then you see what happened beneath.
Avatar 10:09am
βrian:

We had pretty serious flooding when we got 14 inches of rain in one night. We're on high ground, so the noise is what I most remember.
Avatar 10:09am
Linda Lee:

yes... that sound! very powerful.
Avatar 10:10am
Linda Lee:

hello to you & your piggies, hevykevy!
Avatar 10:10am
Rock Ridge Chess Club:

Hey Kevy, where abouts are you in NC? I'm over in Boone. Oddly enough we have our fair share of flooding up here. Well, time to go finish building a gate.
Avatar 10:11am
Linda Lee:

hello to Boone! i was in the area for a while in the 90s. about 8 years. beautiful.
  10:13am

@rockridgechessclub I'm out in deep Chatham near siler city.so fun to think where all these pastafarians rest their colanders

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am

I sometimes think about moving and avoiding flood zones is one of the many things I consider. Would love to visit the woodsy parts of NC, only been to the Triangle area in the 80s. It smelled good.

Avatar 10:25am

wherever you have narrow river valleys they can flood ~ but don't let fear of flooding keep you from beautiful places! rural NC is just fantastic for so many reasons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am

i was looking at a benny hill gif when this sax started: priceless

  10:28am
hevykevy:

do insects carry their babies around? i just didnt think insects were very nuturing? maybe grasshopper sex?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am
melinda:

@LL elevation is key. I've lived in towns that had major floods but higher ground kept me safe. As much as I like the beautiful rural areas, the lack of transportation options and other things would probably keep me from living there.
Avatar 10:30am
βrian:

Valleys where the foliage and topsoil have been depleted on the slopes are especially vulnerable. The Kickapoo Valley in Wisconsin is lovely, but boy does it flood.
Avatar 10:31am
sphere:

hello fellow peops.
Avatar 10:32am
Linda Lee:

@melinda ~ yes. if your area is flood-prone you do need to have contingency plans!
also hear you on convenience. i've been in the woods full time for almost 20 years & i'm about ready to head back to where life is a little easier. i'm almost 60 though. :-)
Avatar 10:33am
Linda Lee:

Brian, yes. that's right~ & that flooding impacts everyone downstream, even where depletion hasn't taken place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
melinda:

@Linda I'm 48 and trying to think ahead :). My health problems make distance driving hard, too, so even if I get better, which I'm still hoping for, I'm keenly aware of the downsides of isolation when you're kinda disabled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am
melinda:

Topsoil depletion is one of the largest problems most people don't know about.
Avatar 10:38am
Linda Lee:

@melinda ~ right. when we're not well, there are real concerns about things that others can take for granted.
Avatar 10:38am
Linda Lee:

illness, topsoil depletion ~ when wer'e not directly impacted we tend not to think about it! :-)

Avatar 10:48am
Linda Lee:

sorry not to be able to make it out.
  10:52am
Kat in Chicago:

Trying to imagine how “My Chicago “ would sound, and all I can think of is the bag someone at the bus stop had yesterday that said “CHICAGO HATES YOU” in big blue letters on black. It was supposed to be edgy or something, I guess, but I actually feel a general hostility in Chicago below the surface that I don’t like at all.
  10:55am
Kat in Chicago:

I pick up on it a lot as a pedestrian and transit rider.
Avatar 10:55am
Linda Lee:

that's too bad. is it really hostility or just an abrasiveness with no ill will? that's what people find out about new york.. it's not personal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am

Please to slow down, Linda
