Hello
  12:03am
Jocelyn:

Hello everyone!
  12:08am
rich:

good morning md, chresti, jocelyn, et al.
here for your eyes this evening: www.guliaev.com...
  12:10am
s:

is this snack music? I don't know but I want some chips.
  12:12am
rw:

Evening!

S, just be quiet opening the bag.
  12:13am
rich:

chips might be okay for this, i'm thinking something softer like craisins or cherries (it's not quite grape music)
  12:15am
rw:

I was craving popcorn earlier. Should I make some?
  12:16am
Jocelyn:

I have chocolate covered blueberries if anyone wants any
  12:17am
s:

yes popcorn is best . salt pepper and olive oil
  12:19am
s:

sick paintings btw I've seen something like that stuff but much older at museum
  12:20am
s:

European like music though popcorn not European like
  12:22am
rw:

Coconut oil is good too. Carl Stone is American as far as I know but I believe he's living in Japan now. I think his song titles are all asian restaurants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am
Franco Twinkie:

Thanks for the link, Rich! Pavel Guiliaev's mix of Flemish panel paintings with what appears to be more or less contemporary junk clipped from magazines is truly mesmerizing. These will take some careful scrutiny.
  12:24am
s:

hahahaha Himalaya restaurant would have good dumplings

After closer inspection I realize that no one source of recognizable imagery is identifiable. Comparisons could be made, but I think they would miss the mark. He seems to exist in his own twilight netherworld.

a good place to exist

I hear a dirigido

Wow 2 songs from Argus in 2 days on FMU, Bill Mac played Blowin’ Free last night.
Avatar 1:24am

Great album. Saw them perform the whole thing live a couple years ago.

yes, it’s very weird to hear Wishbone Ash twice in 24 hours without anyone dying. that i know of.

The Work! awesome

The Sons of Temperance is making me want another drink.
  1:38am
rw:

And the answers to my math questions for posting comments seem disproportionately to be ascending or descending sequences.
  1:39am
rw:

456, 876, etc.
  1:42am
rich:

has anyone ever gotten the math question wrong? what happens? does it give you another problem to solve? does it get more difficult?
  1:44am
rw:

It says Try Again, then gives another question. So far I've never had to use a calculator.
  1:46am
rw:

Math question is a three digit # plus a one digit #. I don't think the last digits ever add up to more than 9. 638 + 7 wouldn't appear, but 638 + 1 might.
  1:46am
rich:

they are alway addition. i think if you get 221+2=? wrong you should at least get some subtraction or division, maybe a fraction.
  1:47am
rw:

You mean as a filter to help keep the comments intelligent?
  1:49am
Mark R.:

New Iggy sounds cool. I didn't know it was him til I looked at the playlist. I actually appreciated the song on its own merits.
  1:52am
rw:

Oh, and the phone app; no math!
  1:53am
rw:

ZZ Top-ish riff here!
  1:54am
Mark R.:

I know it's not cool to like the Black Keys for some reason, but I always have. Their new album is great!
  1:55am
rw:

I always get them confused with The Black Lips.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am

hey rich and squirrely folk
  2:05am
rw:

Hey coela!

Mark R, you can talk about the Black Keys on Michele with one L's Guilty Pleasures show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09am
coelacanth∅:

rw!

...i like the black keys. i don't often go out of my way to listen to it but i've heard 5 albums and nothing i don't like and respect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am
coelacanth∅:

(correction: 6 albums)
  2:19am
Mark R.:

I'm not a nut about the Black Keys, I think I've got I think two of their albums.
  2:20am
Mark R.:

rw, a guilty pleasure on FMU is different from a guilty pleasure for a normal person.
  2:27am
rw:

Haha! Distinction between FMU and normal. My son's considering about writing about his taste in music as the topic for his college apps. I can't figure out if it's a good idea, but I think it might be, depending on how he writes it.
  2:28am
rw:

Please disregard that first about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am

hey i played a Tom Petty song on the jukebox at the pub earlier.
Fuck all who pretend they're too "avant-guard" to listen to such things.
...poseurs.
  2:30am
rw:

Tom Petty could be my guilty pleasure, depending on the crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31am
coelacanth∅:

(...meanwhile shit like "shittyflute", and space lady gets a standing ovation)
  2:33am
rw:

Hmmm.... it may not be a popular stance in these parts but I may agree. Space Lady, maybe. I'd have to hear her again.
  2:35am
Mark R.:

I've always loved Tom Petty, and he kept making great records right up to the end, but he fell into that "classic rock" box where those stations would play his songs from the 70s but none of his newer, equally great stuff, and stations like FMU generally avoided him like the plague. No, he wasn't avant garde, but he was also one of the best live artists I've ever seen, and the time I saw he and the Heartbrakers backing up Dylan was one of the greatest nights of music I ever experienced.
  2:35am
Mark R.:

TREMENDOUS version of "Anarchy in the UK" here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am
coelacanth∅:

well, good for apace lady if she can make a few bucks. it's just nothing especially creative and not interesting to me.
shittyflute is probably Ken, or someone Ken knows... and it got old within minutes and it's gone on for a couple of years.
  2:38am
rw:

Ha! Get pissed. Destroy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am
coelacanth∅:

yeah good version!
  2:41am
rw:

Space Lady never struck me enough to where I remember what she sounds like nor even enough to look her up now. Rich, on the other hand never picks a clunker!
  2:42am
rw:

Rich, you should pick a clunker. I bet you can't.
Avatar 2:43am

My middle little brother Rob worships Tom Petty. I like Petty, like I like John Fogerty — they come up with hooks apparently automatically — but I don’t listen to him; he’s out there in the American culture, and I get enough of him just randomly
Avatar 2:45am

nice set ,will be looking up some of these bands ...love Spiritualized
Avatar 2:48am

When I was young (like forty years ago) and people were saying “guilty pleasures” without irony, I used to get mad at the very idea of Guilty Pleasures. Cool Ain’t Shit (I retorted).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am
coelacanth∅:

yeah Scraps that's kind of it with me as well. i'm going to hear freefalling and refugee and all anyway so i don't play it; but there are a few songs i really want to hear now and then. (wont back down; american girl...
and an apparently very obscure one that i have on the b side of i don't even know what: "gator on the lawn" which is goofy and awesome!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am
coelacanth∅:

(@2.48) as Uncle Michael says "where there are no guilty pleasures".
  2:52am
rw:

Gator on the Lawn? That one I may have to look up. I remember hearing The Heartbreakers on Rodney on the ROQ back in olden times.
  2:53am

Loooove Moon Duo, forgot about them!
Avatar 2:54am

I’m very happy when “I Need to Know” comes on
  2:54am
rich:

rw i have picked my fair share of clunkers but even a clunker can sound okay if you find the right place for it (as long as it doesn't sound like kenny g, john tesh or any of that horrible soft jazz sax crap)
  2:55am
rich:

and that's it for me this week. have a great week folks. next week david toop is my guest.

when i was in high school and there were these girls who'd come around all the time they surprised me once as i was playing a 45 of an Olivia Newton-John song. 2 of them looked like i just fell off my pedistal because i was picking my nose but one (the youngest one) said it was cool.
