There's a video out there in which someone speculates that Purdie had been enlisted to overdub on Beat Boys tracks from the Sheridan sessions for release in the mid-sixties, and in fact he demonstrated that *someone* surely overdubbed Best's original part. And so, goes the story, he put "Beatles" on his resume and then when someone went "wait, BEATLES???" his story eventually expanded......
